Kate Gosselin: Being In Spotlight Is Tough

MUSKEGON, Mich. — Kate Gosselin, co-star of TLC's "Jon & Kate Plus 8," says it's difficult reading stories about herself.

Recent media reports have focused a harsh spotlight on Kate and her husband, Jon, who star with their eight children on the popular reality show. In recent days, the Gosselins' wholesome on-screen home life has been called into question by reports of extramarital affairs. Both Jon and Kate have denied those accusations.

"This is certainly not what I envisioned I was signing up for," Kate Gosselin said Wednesday during an appearance at the Frauenthal Center, The Muskegon Chronicle reported.

"When I see magazines in stores it's really difficult. It amazes me there is an industry that follows you around and writes stories about you.

"It destroys peoples' lives. I need you to know, don't believe what you read unless you hear it from that person."

On its Web site, Us Weekly recently described an over-friendly relationship between Gosselin and her married bodyguard, Steve Neild, that "caught the attention of her husband _ and has become the talk of many locals" in their Pennsylvania community.

People magazine's Web site quoted Gosselin as saying the couple have been struggling for months.

"This week I'm on the cover of four magazines. One is true, three are not," Kate told her audience.

The Gosselins are on the cover of People, Us Weekly, Star and National Enquirer. She described People's reporting as the most accurate.

She has previously denied having an affair with Neild. Jon Gosselin has denied cheating with a 23-year-old schoolteacher, and he has apologized for putting his family in an "awkward situation."

Kate Gosselin said the stop in Muskegon, located about 35 miles northwest of Grand Rapids, was the last on her travel schedule for a while. She said she plans to spend more time at home.

"The last couple weeks have been interesting," she said. "I had to address that."

TLC's most popular series, which has been on the air for four seasons, attracts an average audience of more than 2.8 million viewers.

The new, 40-week season premieres May 25 with an hourlong edition.

I caught a clip of one of the "new house" episodes, and there was one thing that caught my attention. Kate is looking out the kitchen window of her new mansion, admires the land around the house and says, "This is all mine." Not "ours," but "mine." She's in that house with nine other people, and she is admiring the land as "hers." Says a lot.

What is wrong with this woman? Has she never looked at any of the magazines she mentioned before she appeared on the cover? That is what they DO for heavens sake! And what did she expect when she chose to put her family on public display? I believe she has made the decision to put the fame and money before her family. Jon stated on the last show of the previous season that he would like for it to be the last - he does not enjoy being in the public eye, but she enjoys what she is doing and wants it to continue. Well, there is a price to pay for everything.

I wish they would of talked more about why they had a falling out with Kate. Something is seriously wrong if everyone close in your life is no longer there.. like there one friends who they had a video shoot at there house and helped Kate write her book - don't remember there names, but they are never shown either...

Kate needs some professional help. Something is not right if you cannot keep friends and family.

Jodie's sister has a blog about the falling out between Kevin & Jodie (Kate's brother and his wife) and Jon & Kate. It has to do with Kate not wanting anyone else getting paid for appearing on the show, even though Jodie would at times babysit the sextuplets with cameras in the house while Jon & Kate ran errands.

Clearly, Kate is addicted to fame and craves the limelight - no matter what the cost. A big time intervention is in order. How about we all just tune out - turn the channel, buy another magazine, etc. ? Let's free Kate from the torment of being followed by the cameras and hounded by the press.

I totally believe that, I mean she's vile WHEN the camera's are rolling-imagine when they're not. She always seems to have a complaint about everything, from free trips to when they got those adorable puppies! You would think she would be a little more grateful for all these free things & opportunities, especially since she's in the past talked about being a Christian and having the support of their church when the sextuplets were born. I feel bad for those kids--they are so adorable and for the most part (with the exception of one of the twins-Mady) seem to be pretty well adjusted and good kids! Mady is a different story-she's on her way to being Kate #2 that's for sure!!
