First Lady Michelle Obama spend Wednesday afternoon visiting with third-graders in an after-school program at Ferebee Hope Elementary in Southeast Washington, DC. Ferebee Hope Elementary is a member of Communities In Schools, the nation's largest dropout prevention organization.

According to the press release:

Communities In Schools works in partnership with public schools to identify and connect students with the community resources they need to stay engaged in school. These resources are then coordinated through a school-based coordinator and brought directly to the children who need them. Examples include mentoring, tutoring, health care, after-school programs and cultural enrichment.

After meeting with the Communities In Schools' Board Of Directors, Michelle Obama spent the afternoon reading to the students.

See the details on what Michelle wore, including her alleged false eyelashes here!

Imagine being a third grader and the First Lady of The United States enters your class room and reads to you. Being an at risk-kid, you stare in wonderment at this larger than life woman and you think to yourself, "Is reading and learning how I can be like her?"

And, your next thought is, "I must be special." You flash a big smile at Michelle Obama, and to your amazement, she smiles back. . Now you are certain she knows your secret..."Michelle Obama thinks I'm special." A life-changing jumpstart.
MerrieWay has seen children take the smallest encouragement toward greatness and turn it into a real possibility.

I had a chance to be present for our First Lady's commencement speech today at the University of California, Merced. She gave a wonderful speech praising the diversity of our rural area and encouraging our new graduates to give back to others. Mrs. Obama inspired so many people today. I thank our President for taking soccer duty today to share his wonderful spouse with us.

The look in the kids eyes every time she meets with them is amazing. Twenty years from now she will be the most referred to person as their inspiration.

You people who for some reason hate the Obama's or the fact that the White House is occupied by Americans, who are a different color than the last 43 First Families, should really just go away. The Obama's aren't loved, because they are African American or rich or feared, they are loved because they give love so freely. The hatred that you racist , republican , Palin lovers have toward the Obama's is a sign that you are not satified with your own miserable lives. JUST GO AWAY!!!

Is it really necessary to advertise what she wore and her false eyelashes? She's not a model, she's a nationa lfigure doing a good deed. What she wears is irrelevant.

Michelle Obama has a unique place as first lady. As an African-American, a trendy dresser, and someone who dares to break the first lady style mold, she garners a different kind of attention

And let's face it, a lot of the stuff she's doing would only generate indifference from a lazy news media if there wasn't always the curiosity about her appearance.

I even thought it was nice when W and his wife read to local kids. It's just a NICE thing to do for the community--- no matter the political party, and even though I'm a democrat, I can appreciate the work that Laura Bush did for literacy along with the work that Michelle Obama is doing.

Every single gesture in Washington doesn't have to be so partisan.

Absolutely. Laura Bush was a perfectly fine first lady and champion of literacy herself. She wasn't scrutinized half as closely as our current first lady.

Cheering Michelle Obama does not mean we have to put down her predecessor. I'm sure she would hate that, and Laura Bush does not deserve it.

I cannot for the life of me understand why there are people who choose to be mean-spirited when someone is doing something fantastic in the world, such as spreading love and hope and wisdom to others, such as what Michelle Obama is doing. She is such a positive force for millions of people, young and old. I love seeing the photos of her hugging children. Just love it.

I love you First Lady Michele Obama!
