UPDATED: GM Dealerships Closing, SEE THE LIST, INTERACTIVE MAP

Huffington Post   First Posted: 6/24/09 Updated: 5/25/11

Gm Map

The list of the more than 1,000 dealerships that GM plans to close has begun to trickle in. On Friday, GM dealerships across the country began receiving FedEx packages indicating which franchises could be shut down by next year. GM has announced that it will not renew its franchise agreements with nearly one quarter of its U.S. dealerships.

GM, however, isn't publicly disclosing the list of dealerships that could be shuttered. The Huffington Post is compiling a list of the closed dealerships as we get word from readers.

[GM Has since announced that 41 dealerships will remain open. Check out our story on GM dealership reprieves.]

Help us compile all of the closing dealerships! If you hear of any GM dealerships closing in your area, email us at submissions+gm@huffingtonpost.com. We are only posting confirmed closures of GM dealerships, so please include a link to a news report in your email.

Courtesy Chevrolet in Morgan Hill, California closed up before the GM letter went out. They still have a Courtesy Chevrolet in San Jose, California. BTW, Courtesy Chevrolet Morgan Hill was in a fancy facility which was built brand new just a few years ago.

I don't think GM understands their own marketplace. Right now 60-80 percent of the dealers are not going to renew their contracts. I don't think GM planned on that. Expecting dealers to build new facilities in the economic downturn is ridiculous. I wonder if they ever considered the value of service to the customer when they came up with this great plan to cut dealers. I just don't understand. All these dealers advertise for GM at their own cost. I really didn't think you could have to many salesman There are locations in this country where a customer will have to drive 3 hours for service work.

For any dealers needing help with inventory issues, please refer to the http://allworldautomotive.com web site. Free place to sell wholesale inventory.

I hope that the people who worked at those dealerships are able to find other jobs.

The two closest Chevrolet dealers closed a few years ago. There are no dealerships close to us left to shut down.

I hope the above link came up. Interesting. Europe/GM are fighting to continue employing their people and not shutting down plants.

Hello Peoples,
After reading everyone's posts, I don't understand why people are upset that GM is in the position that it is in. I mean it is really simple, people buy things that last a long time especially when they are reasonably priced, GM was not that company. Saturn should have been shut down years ago, and their cars should have been reliable. I just went to the bank and on my way I swear that I saw a 2007 Pontiac G6 pulled over with the hood up, that is not a good thing. I drive a 2003 Ford Taurus SES, the only thing I ever had to replaced was my tie rods and that was covered by my extended warranty. But back to my point, GM done this to themselves and there workers put themselves in the position that they are in now because they decided to work for them. So if you ask me, the bigger picture is that this is a recession and things like this will happen, Americans are weaving out the companies like GM which is a good thing, if people don't like it, they should build their own car. Don't believe me when I say that ford is quality, look at the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO and compare it to the Dodge Charger HEMI, the SHO has all wheel drive and the HEMI does not but the prices are nearly the same, & to me it's those little things that count to the American

Looking at that map, especially in my Midwest, it looks like almost all of the hits are coming in rural areas. GM's decisions will speed up the decline of small towns giving the kids there even less reason to stay put.

These companies should go down under. Absolutely no innovation and lack of quality and they been peddling these shoddy vehicles by wrapping it around a american flag.

Bye Bye GM. Figure out how to make a car and then maybe we will open our wallet.

ohhhhh sorry liberal bug....i didn't realize that you were unaware that Cadillac were once again the most satisfied customers in the auto industry in the world and I also figured you were smart enough to know that Buick has the highest dependability in the world......but I guess you aren't looking for complete satisfication or high quality and dependability in your next vehicle.........oh and guess what Cadillac and Buick share their technology with the rest of the GM lines

Who cares about Cad's ratings. We've bought Volvos for years because they are solid, are maneuveraable, and my husband can do the mechanical stuff (we don't buy new). So why would I want a car with a combined 14 mpg rating? My Volvo gets over twice that and can schlep just about anything I need around to boot. Complete satisfaction or quality or dependibility? Pleeeeeez I already have that.

Karee, Don't let that guy calling you a Liberal get you pissed at US automakers. He's just the kind of guy who will sacrifice intelligence for partisan drivel. The next time you look for a car however, will you kindly give US automakers a shot? I have an Infiniti SUV which is eight years old. Never one flipping problem. Tires, oik change, brakes, that's it. I don't need no stinking report to know it's quality. But next time I look at Chevy and Ford first. In all honesty I will be holding my breath. But by God I am an American. And we may take a while, but we are smart enough to learn. Peace

The UAW should be to blame for most of the big 3's problems, they are a stranglehold on the auto industry and should be disbanned, shame on Obama for giving them in ownership of something they have no right to own.

Wow - I'm thinking you don't like unions and the facts won't get in your way. I tell you, those guys at the UAW just don't know how to manage a company, do they? I mean, after all, they're the ones who designed the cars, managed the finances and developed the corporate strategy. I'm guessing those executives making millions of dollars a year just got bullied by those poor UAW guys into making gas-guzzling, unappealing, automobiles for years. And wow, the way the UAW built up the most inefficient dealership mechanism on earth was a travesty.

I am saddened by the closures. However, Americans buy too many cars too frequently. My husband and I bought our first home 4 years ago. We have neighbors that are a four person family-the kids are both under 5-and yet they have gotten a new car every year-SUVs- and they have three cars for a four person family! I drive a 15 year old Volvo wagon. The sad thing is that most American made cars look like absolute crap after 15 years. If the American car manufacturers invested more on quality standards like our foriegn competitors we may not be in such rough shape.

Some people put all there money into their house, some into investments, some into fishing, boats, racing, travel, you name people spend money on it. Why is it wrong to spend it on cars?
08:55 PM on 05/22/2009
cars, boats are depreciable assets. put it in assets that at least are meant to appreciate. !!
