US First Lady Michelle Obama is not a "great beauty," but will "just get better with age," Iman, one of the first black supermodels, says in a magazine interview.
"Mrs Obama is not a great beauty," the Somali-born model and wife of rocker David Bowie tells Parade magazine's Sunday issue, reflecting on the first black US first lady, who is a lawyer by training and a former executive.

Well, I've got news for Iman. She's no great beauty either -- just picked out from the crowd because of her height.
There are other Somalian models who leave Iman far behind.
In fact I don't know why I said, "either," because I happen to think that Michelle Obama is beautiful -- not a fashion icon, but beautiful.

I think that's a very fair and thoughtful assessment of our FLOTUS and in no way insulting. A good deal of her beauty comes from her confidence and sense of style. And like Iman said that inner glow ages very well along with cheekbones that won't quit.
read the article, and I agree she was paying the first lady a compliment. In the same way that any of the judges on America's Next Top Model would. Which is too say something that sounds rude then follow it up with something that sounds nice. That being said, I still think the first lady is prettier than Iman. The headline isn't misleading, it's spot on what she said.
Except that FLOTUS is not in a modeling contest or a beauty pageant. Believe me, I rip people to shreds in those settings because I feel they ask for the scrutiny when they sign up.
Michelle Obama is just being a strong woman, wife, mother and citizen. She never asked to be judged by these superficial standards. Nor did she present herself as some paragon of beauty in search of a sash and title.
Iman can spin it all she can, she is a woman of tact (usually) who chooses her words wisely. She meant to compliment. But she also meant to "dig" as well.
Jealousy is a powerful thing. And unfortunately for Iman, her Vogue days are likely over. Unless they are doing a retrospective on fashion dinosaurs of a bygone era.

Iman is unlikely to be jealous of Michelle as she has no reason to be. My guess is she has empathy - black women in the spot light kind of thing - which is why she was asked what she was asked. Her answer was honest and fair and in my mind, true. Tough luck if you dont agree, honey. Rip yourself all up.

I agree. I don't have an iPhone, but I should be spending my time focusing on what will make differences in my own life -- that doesn't include the hours I spend on this site sometimes.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the beholder is often beguiled by skillful illusion.
If Imam is speaking about fashion model standards, she may be technically right.
But even the most successful fashion models don't get up in the morning looking like the Photoshopped, airbrushed, hyper-groomed fantasies they appear to be in the fashion mags.
I have seen quite a few and yes, they do look amazing. The ones I have seen have bone structures that are out of this world - it isnt just that they are thin - it is that they are naturally built thst way. Sure there are other who try to starve themselves into it - but the reason that these women are so worshipped is that very few human beings are born that way. That is just the way it is, folks. Natural beauty like Imans is rare.
Misleading headline. Sensationalism has gotten the best of integrity.
Stop trying to cause trouble. Iman is wonderful (and should've been cast as STORM in X-men) and she was actually paying the first lady an honest compliment.

The same way that Oscar de la Renta was "complimenting" Hillary Clinton when he said she has a "great shape fom the waist up". Who wants that kind of "compliment"?
Iman made no reference to any body part of Michelle's, dude.
