He could have done a lot of good with that money.
How many hungry kids does $18m feed?
For a third term, why would he need to spend so much?
If he is worth a s**t, he should be able to run on his record!

So, if he is such a great guy, why does it take soooooooo much money to run a reelection campaign? For mayor, no less.

Bloomberg's a philanthropic guy in his personal life, so I won't accuse him of placing his own interests over those of others.

When you think about it in the abstract, is $18 mil really that much money to run a campaign in NYC? Think about the price of ad space alone? Plus, aren't there, like, 100 million people in that city or something?

For a challenger, maybe.
But he is running for a third term.
It just seems excessive to me. Why can't he run on his record?
Or is the $$$ to promote his record? And if that is the case, it must not be much of a record if the voters don't already know it.

As a New Yorker I'm outraged that Mayor Bloomberg is running for an unprecedented third term. The voters of NYC approved a referendum for Term Limits, after the first approval it was placed on the ballot a Second time and it was overwhelmingly approved again by the voters of NYC. When 9/11/01 occurred and Rudy Giuliani was the Mayor and suggested he would extent his term as Mayor, several people on the City Council and the New Mayor Micheal Bloomberg threatened to go to court because of the Term Limit Law.The reasoning also was that Rudy wasn't the only person who could manage the city in its darkest hour and he was well hated .

Mayor Michael Bloomberg decided he needs another term because of the NYC economy so he and several members of the City Council went to Court and had the Twice Approved Referendum overturned. The Mayor is now running commercials for the upcoming Election in November now. He's paying off various religious groups, the NY media hasn't condemned him for overturning the will of the voters he now expects to vote for him again either. What a arrogant, selfish, disconnected person he his. The rules shouldn't apply to him because he's a BILLIONAIRE. I'm outraged that he tenacity to have the voters will disregarded and what's worse the Media has remained silent I hope New Yorkers are just as outraged and don't not vote for that thug Bloomberg or any council members.

What? Money has infiltrated American politics? Wealthy well connected individuals dwarf the best and the brightest? I call for a special investigator to be paid off to conclude that this is just not so--I want this covered up asap.

It’s essential that you keep the lies of 911 hidden. This is why Hillary was a Senator from NY and not Arkansas. It was Hillary and Giuliani that prevented ANY investigation, inspection, or verification of the debris from 911. They ordered it all destroyed. There were no commercial planes on 911. US media will do everything they can to prevent you from knowing this fact. To this day...not one single piece of airliner debris from any of the 4 planes from any of the 4 locations on 911 has ever been verified in any way by anyone outside of the White House. There are no black boxes and no voice data recorders. There were no commercial planes on 911. It was all a lie.

That's correct. There was one in the WMD crowd. All that one person wanted was for one single speck of WMD to be inspected and verified. Suddenly after videos, photos, witnesses, UN presentations of proof....suddenly it was an "intelligence failure" and there were no WMD's. Having at least ONE in every crowd is essential for the truth. There were no commercial planes on 911.

There were a lot of witnesses that say the contrary, e.g. family members of people on the planes, air traffic controllers, ground crew, etc.

The claim you make is drastic, to say the least. Do you have anything to back this up, like a web address (preferably, not from an extreme right wing organization)?

If he's spending this much on his campaign, how much will he get from his connections when he is elected?

God, I'm glad I'm old and close to the end of my life. Seeing what has become of this once great nation since Ronnie Ray-gun is so disheartening.
I love this country. To see it become nothing more than the Roman Empire in it's final days is just heartbreaking.

People have been trying to get rid of Sheldon Silver for a long time in New York, but he rules like a king as Speaker of the House. He was really down in the polls and almost lost this time around, but money and voter intimidation once again worked. Someday another Spitzer-type will come around and bring this guy down. Maybe Spitzer would have had he not been brought down. He was able to bring Bruno down.
