NEW YORK — Ticket sales at the box office was brisk over the weekend, as moviegoers turned out for the opening of "Angels & Demons," which wrestled top film honors from "Star Trek."

"Angels & Demons," which stars Tom Hanks in his "The Da Vinci Code" role, earned $46.2 million in its first weekend of release, according to final studio numbers Monday.

Last week's no. 1 film, "Star Trek," held strong with $43 million, bringing its two-week total to $147.6 million.

This should be revised. Angeles and Demons only made $46 Mil when the final numbers came in plus Star Trek did better box office on both Saturday & Sunday.

Angels and Demons was fast paced and fun to watch, although it was a bit predictable. Read my entire review here:

The better half and I attended both movies, we enjoyed them and were entertained by both. We don't attend for moral guidance or American Idol competition just entertainment like our parents did during the Great Depression.

cheers,

The sooner this new Star Trek abomination is kicked out of theaters the better.

I'm glad Angels and Demon did well at the box office, because it was a well written and performed movie. I loved Obsessed, Star Trek and A&D, we're getting some good movies this year.

Jake, I don't know if they changed it in the movie or not. But, Angels & Demons is not a sequel to The Da Vinci Code. It is before the events of the Da Vinci Code and was published before The Da Vinci Code.

Is it just me or are the movies actually good this year?

It's the best movie out, really. Star Trek, Wolverine... yeah.

Now to wait for Public Enemy!

While I await that I'll see "Pelham 123" - may be rehash but 2 stars at near-top of their game, and Travolta looks kinda fit.

Easy to see why; I might watch Demons and Angels... then watch it again if it's good. That trek thing made by a guy who said he never liked trek certainly proved it was a waste of money, even if the populism-driven populace liked it. (as has been said: popular opinion vs critical opinion; I'll take critical opinion with a little more merit by default.)

Critical opinion is also FAR more favorable of Trek than A&D.

I'll say it for you: "Oops."

Star Trek (2009) is fabulous! I think Trekkers are positively reviewing it.
How could it be bad that they are trying to give the series another life on the screen?

Plus, Checkov rocks!

Rotten tomatoes tallies for Angels & Demons :38% (34% from Top Critics)}
Rotten Tomatoes tallies for Star Trek: 95% (91% from Top Critics)

Kind of blows that theory out of the water, huh?

I also loved DaVinci Code!! I have the dvd, and watch it whenever it's on TV.

Angels and Demons was pretty good, I just saw it, not as good as DVC but Langdon is good, Carmalengo/Ewan McGregor is the other worthy performance. Mystery and intrigue are quite strong. I won't give anything else away!

It is worth seeing. Good cinematography, well shot. Hard to match the inky streets of Paris and the Louve, and London. But Rome and all the churches and surrounding areas look really cool. They are a good pair of movies, for sure.

I loved the DaVinci code book better than the movie but Angels and Demons, was great! Read the book too. Kept very close to the original story but condensed, of course. I found it to be better than DaVinci code.
