Cynthia Nixon ENGAGED To Christine Marinoni (PHOTOS)

UPDATE: Extra! talked to Nixon at Sunday's event about her engagement:

We're hoping to do it in New York. We're not going to wait forever, but we're hoping it's just around the corner...Sometime I think before the end of next summer, but we don't have a date."

Nixon showed "Extra" her gorgeous ring but reveals Marinoni is going bling-less. "She did not get a ring. She will have a wedding ring but she does not want an engagement ring."

PREVIOUSLY:
Sunday Cynthia Nixon announced her engagement to longtime partner Christine Marinoni during an Action=Marriage Equality rally in midtown New York to fight for same-sex marriages.

Nixon was joined at the rally not by her fiancee, to whom she became engaged last month, but by her "Sex and the City" costar Kristin Davis, David Hyde Pierce and New York Governor David Paterson.

Below is a photo of Nixon as she shows of her new engagement ring during the rally, and below that Nixon's hand Friday night.

The pair have been dating since 2003. Nixon has a son and a daughter from a previous relationship.

She's come a long, long way since "Little Darlings". Is this a testament to our society's oppression of the LBGTs? All of these famous iconic women are coming out in these recent years. Jodie Foster? That was a surprise, too. I just never thought twice about what team they played on. I just assume everyone is straight until proven otherwise. I have been wrong to do that. Nothing should ever be assumed about anyone. As liberal and open-minded as I am, I see I have been affected and I have some deprogramming to do in my brain.

Why are people still so confused about the nature of human sexuality in 2009? Sex and love happens between two adults who are willing and able to give their consent. Society protects minors, some seniors and people with mental disabilities. Society nor religion can reform biology. You inherit half your Mom, half your Dad and however those genes organically fuse together in utero is what you get! Regardless of what genitalia you're assigned, t's way more complicated than that! We're all natural and we're all normal and the sooner we start accepting that, the sooner we'll start loving ourselves and everyone else. Congratulations to this couple and respect for their bravery.

I agree. Masculinity is sexy in a totally different way when it comes to women. As a straight woman and someone who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, asserting masculinity as a female and standing your ground is important. Men find themselves attracted to the seemingly confident, unself-conscious, independent, low maintenance female who can kick a$$. That's why comic books are full of "butch" women. LOL!

This question is coming from someone who cleary is confused on laws of attraction.

Why is a woman who is gay, attracted to a woman that looks like a man? But not attracted to men? When I see gay male couples the man does not border on looking like a woman!
Do they really want a woman in a man's body?

I notice this having gone to Margaret Cho and Paula Poundstone shows before (they have a large gay audience) that among women couples there was an obvious role division of who was the "male" and who was the "female" of the female couple, in terms of looks and demeanor.

Good for them! Nixon has fought breast cancer and been seriously ill. It's great seeing her back in the pink and happy.
