Paulson's Lament: Lehman Brothers Stole My Reputation

Hank Paulson, former master of the universe, sits in a nondescript office in northwest Washington, D.C. He is trying to work on his memoirs, but he is struggling. He doesn't seem like the onetime All-Ivy tackle at Dartmouth, the Harvard M.B.A. who ran Goldman Sachs, the prince of Wall Street who went on to be come secretary of the Treasury. He comes across more like an athlete who has lost a game and can't stop talking about the dropped pass, the missed shot. He is trying to explain the weekend last September when Lehman Brothers went down--and the financial world collapsed.

I have news for you Mr. Paulson, Lehman didnt get much. The minute you got in Bush's bed, you had no reputation. There were those of us investors who thought you were the only working brain in that administration. We were reeducated when you drempt up that tarp business with added caveat that you could not be prosecuted. You are as much responsible for what happened in this economy as anyone. I am sorry for you. You will pay for your greed and your blind loyalty to 43. Whatever your payment will be, it wont be enough!

Banks didn't steal your reputatation, they bought it and paid handsomley for it. You should go straight to jail for your part in the meltdown. You have some nerve going public.

Paulson is NOT a nice guy. He milked the system for hundreds of millions and at the same time appears to have been incompetent relative to his customers and the stock holders. He should shut up and slink away, hoping we don't start investigating him.

Actually, it was Geithner who allowed them to fail, not Paulson. I guess he's providing the distraction of the day from the new Secretary of the Treasury.
