Austin American-Statesman:

About a month ago, I stood with a bipartisan group of Texas legislators to speak in support of a resolution honoring the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The resolution simply restates the Constitution's principle of federalism -- that powers not granted to the national government, nor prohibited to the states, are reserved to the states or the people.

Some advice from Abraham Lincoln:

"'Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt."

Backpedaler alert!

Get the fire extinguisher, his pants are on fire!

When the had the coversation about it amongst themselves it all seemed such a good idea.
I guess the polling numbers came back real bad.

Texan must not like the actual idea of not being Americans anymore.
Didn't want to have the anti-immigration fence put on the northern border.

On behalf of all rational, educated Texans, I humbly apologize for the ignorance of Gov. Perry.

I have long maintained (well at least since November 2000 anyway) that if the Confederate states were to attempt another unified secession à la 1861, they would meet with precious little opposition from the rest of the country--let alone trigger a second civil war.

A party that embraces Secessionists shouldn't be allowed to lead the nation.

Is there no bottom to this cesspool?

If Republicans is the party of less-government involvement, then why are they insisting on involving the government in a woman's PRIVATE decision to have an abortion? They want government out of the banks but not the bedroom? They want CONSTITUTIONAL FREEDOM but cannot separate religion and government?

Is there no bottom?

This is how conservatives operate. They whine and cry until they get what they want... and once they can no longer get what they want, they try to take the ball and go home.

That's exactly what happed to start the civil war- they agreed to the Missouri Compromise because they thought they could rig the vote... so when they failed even at that, they whined and cried and wanted to leave the USA.

The South is worthless. They couldn't even be bothered to help during the Revolutionary War, because they were too busy murdering each other like savages.

Perry follows in his mentor's foot steps. He even has the arrogant, fratboy look that "W" mastered at Yale and foisted upon the American public. Please if Perry wants to be President, let him be President of Texas. The rest of the country needs to be spared from another good Ol' boy from Texas.

This guy is against America until he is for it. Unreal. Taking a government check but wants to succeed from that same government, this guy has no shame. Hypocrite!

Dickipedia has posted Rick the D ick on its site. They have him nailed...but he's much worse than what's described in that reference. He vote total from the '06 Governor's race totaled 37%....not a mandated by any stretch. He's been a loser for Texas since '98. Remember, the Lt. Governor in Texas has the power in the state, the Governor just gets to veto things after the legislature leaves town. And this Rick the d ick has set a new standard for 'really bad' when it comes to vetoing legislation. So bad that after Rick the d ick vetoed Education funding one year, the legislature called a special session just to return and override his veto. Rick the D ick.

Of course he doesn't. He just wanted the people to think he did and get them all stired up. Well, he made a fool of himself when everybody said go ahead. Now he says he didn't mean it. Well no take backs gov.

His interpretation of the "reserve clause" is a confederate states rights interpretation and he ignores the "national supremacy clause" (Article Six) as well as the "necessary and proper" clause (Article I Section 8). His view of the reserved clause leads to an exaggeration that suggests more of a confederate arrangement as opposed to a federal one as he seeks to define the national government as overreaching its constitutional authority etc. That's my view at least.

Those looking for the positive impact of limited government and fiscal conservation should turn their eyes to Texas . . . really?

So tell me again Governor, why, exactly, do you even need stimulus money then? Sounds like you Texans are doing pretty darn good on your own.
