Will Ferrell SNL Season Finale: George Bush, Dick Cheney (Darrell Hammond) Reunite (VIDEO)

First Posted: 6/17/09 Updated: 5/25/11

The fact that former Vice President Dick Cheney has been going on a media blitz criticizing President Barack Obama has not escaped the sharp eyes of SNL. On last night's season finale, hosted by SNL legend Will Ferrell, Geroge Bush and Dick Cheney were reunited as Cheney prepared to do an interview on "Meet the Press." Hilarity ensued.

Loved this skit, particularly the line re Cheney being on TV more than the ShamWow guy! Had me in stitches! The best part of the SNL finale, however, was seeing Amy Poehler doing the news again! Dang but I've missed her clever writing and that little laugh of hers!

Farrell actually takes quite a swipe at Biden. I love the characterization of Cheney as "the one guy who scares me more than my dad." Reminded me that George W. was just about the perfect antitheses of what a man ought to be . . . strong, independent, respectful of others, and a real protector, not some fear-mongering, hateful brute - ready to use violence at the drop of a hat.

I used to think George HW was a regular guy. Then, after reading about his lifelong career with the CIA as a 'dirty tricks' guy, his membership of Skull & Bones, directorship of the Carlyle Group and his almost certain, but hotly denied, presence in Dallas on November 22nd, 1963, etc. I realised that he grew up to be a true son to his father, Prescott Bush, who owned, amongst many other things, a chunk of Adolf Hitler [via the Union Bank - shut down by the FBI] and all of Richard Nixon.

Bush Junior probably got the same kind of grooming, but wasn't suited to the job. Now they're getting ready to punt Jeb.

3 generations of Bushes have pillaged the world in general and the US in particular. No nice guys there, I'm afraid.

Ya . . . it gacked Firefox for me too, but I rebooted and it played - this time without the lead-in commercial for that new French restaurant, McDoneux's.

I changed the channel from SNL last night when there was a woman w deformed hands & arms as the laugh in a skit. I never use the 'you people' line, but...what is wrong w you people? Blind people, people w physical disabilities - there was a time when SNL was funny bc it poked fun at society & at ourselves. Now we see a lot of making fun of the disabled & also cheap adolescent humor toward women (which lost its funniness early in jr high school, btw). Must have something to do w the current head writer, who doesn't seem to be very talented, & it also seems to have something to do w Amy Pohler, who comes across as the mid-adolescent female bit-chy self-hating ranter we left behind in the 60s.

I still think Darrell Hammond is genius & Tina Fey (esp w the material that writes itself) last season was so funny. But what's up w Loren Michaels? Why has he ceded the show to such mean-spirited, nasty, petty white-boy writing? Just not funny - just destructive, actually. Pohler might have a lock on some comedy club action in NYC but she doesn't show any humor on SNL (even tho yes I know she finally had a baby & moved on) & Seth Meyers is just ridiculous. Snark they seem to know. Humor they don't seem to know.

It just sucked. We really don't look to SNL to dumb us down even more.

First, sounds like you haven't watched the show much this year.

Second, LIGHTEN UP! It's comedy. It's been the same since '75, some things work, more don't.

Third, I thought this show rocked. The sketches were great, all the guests didn't detract from the comedy, and the commentary was, as usual, spot on. You should have stuck it out. It was a million times better than the deplorable Tracy Morgan episode.

It wasn't mean spirited or nasty. Why are you so sensitive there are people with disabilities of all kinds who find the show hilarious

It's a shame this is the season finale. They're going to miss lampooning some great stuff this summer.

Although, green108, Ferrell's delivery of "Yeah, the chemistry of acid in the face.." was pretty close to perfection, and that last zoom-in shot on Darrell's 'Cheney sneer' was just scare-tastic, I tells ya! LOLs all the way around - kudos SNL..! ;) ...

A great skit. The best of course, was the Celebrity Jeopardy spoof (Tom Hanks plays himself, portraying himself as a klutz).

Ummmm, yes.... yes you do. Henceforth and forever Barack Obama will always be known as "Mr. President". So will Bill Clinton and so will Bush.

It's a "respect for the office" thing. You might wanna look stuff like that up first.
01:59 PM on 05/17/2009
Yea, pretty lame. But I found this quote from an old etiquette book about addressing ex presidents, for what it's worth :

"....an ex-president is addressed as "Mr." as in "Mr. Carter" .....very close friends or former staff sometimes use "Mr. President."
