Las Vegas Sun:

Gov. Jim Gibbons said today that President Obama has denied his request to meet with him in Las Vegas later this month.

The governor had sent the president a letter last month saying he wanted to discuss the economic difficulties facing the state's tourism industry. Gibbons said today that he was notified Obama won't meet with him while the president is in Las Vegas on May 26 for a fundraiser for Sen. Harry Reid.

Someone please send this man a Bible and an Etiquette Book.

He has been accused of being unfaithful to his wife and of committing
sexual abuse.
His public relations persona for the state of Nevada is beyond belief.
VOTE HIM OUT OF OFFICE AN SEND HIM TO JAIL.
This creep is off the rails. (Well, he is a Rethug!)

It's not the President's fault that Nevada's major industry is tourism, an industry that fluctuates with the economy. Why doesn't Nevada's governors pull in some favors. I'm sure they are some...other leaders who would be willing to give Nevada a hand...off the books.

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/apr/10/one-hand-gives-obama-invite-other-slap/

"Then came the caustically written news release that Gibbons’ office put out the same day that was about as inviting as a loaded bear trap.

After noting in opening that Gibbons had written Obama requesting a meeting, the release went on to say, in so many words:

You’ve insulted Nevada, Mr. President. You didn’t give us enough stimulus money, Mr. President. And since you’re coming here to help raise money for Harry Reid, certainly you can take some time to sit down with me.

Disrespect and an invitation? Call it a dis-vite."

Not "enough" stimulus money after he had been trying to reject a ton of it

What an idiot

Sounds like someone with serious personal scandal problems is trying to change the subject. How dumb would Obama have to be to go for this ploy?

Isn't he one of the Governor that didn't want the stimulus money?

The Gov. is right about one thing: "This is politics, pure and simple."

Every states tourism industry is hurting. His feelings are hurt because the President is in town and not making time for him. He is not going to see Governor Arnold in Ca. either and that state is way worse off than Nevada. He should be meeting with the movers and shakers in Las Vegas to find the solution.

no he's not hurt. he's playing to a constituency that only exists in his and a few other crackpot's heads. gibbon's grasp of reality is truly bush-like.

First of all, you're the Governor and he's the President. If he doesn't have time in his schedule, he doesn't. Live with it! If you want to meet him so badly, you, along with the rest of the free world and some of the unfree world know where he lives. How about instead of worrying about the convenience to you, worry about the inconvenience to him. LV and Reno aren't exactly next door. How about you make a trip out to DC? Next, if you really want to talk about hypocricy, how about the fact that Boehner and Cantor kept ridiculing the already debunked railroad from Anaheim to LV. THAT, would have definitely been a money maker! Funny thing, both of their districts will be getting those railroads through and your state won't but you didn't see fit to complain about their comments.

Boohoohoo!! Guess you didn't read the article, huh. The President made comments about junkets to Las Vegas by people who took OUR taxpayer dollars. Funny the Gov't didn't mention that little piece. The Gov't doesn't care about our taxpayer dollars.

Talk about hypocrisy. One wonders how many "struggling families" in Nevada (and elsewhere) have been created by the Nevada gambling industry whose purpose is to remove money from the pockets of people who can't afford it.

President Obama was never invited to meet with Gibbons! In so many words he said "You've insulted us by not giving us enough Stimulus money and if you're going to be in Nevada anyway to raise money for Harry Reid, you might as well take time to sit down with me!" Brendan Buhler of the Las Vegas Sun says "It was both disrespect and an invite - call it a Dis-vite."
Further, Jennifer Duffy, senior editor of The Cooks Political report, where she makes her living analyzing the U.S. Senate and Governor's races, was quoted in the LV Sun by Brendan Behler as saying, "President Obama's on a different plane, popularity and powerwise, than the Governor of Nevada, Gibbons" when she was asked about the refusal of President Obama to meet with him.
It's always a good thing to dig deeper. President Obama was sarcasticly "invited" with one hand and sucker punched with the other, and THEN Gibbons misrepresented what actualy happened. As he should, with this kind of misinformation, the President will just ignore it and know the truth will finally come out . Shame, shame...
