Obama: Dating My Daughters Will Be "An Issue"

At ages 10 and 7, Malia and Sasha Obama are daddy's girls. The president is already preparing for what might be his biggest challenge: the dating scene. In a recent Newsweek Q&A, President Obama mentioned his dating policy, with an emphasis on the inherent advantage of armed Secret Service guards. One thing is for sure, the Obama daughters won't be sneaking out of any White House windows when they get to a dating age.

Were you surprised at how quickly your family became part of the cultural iconography? You know, the nice thing is that, partly because of temperament, partly because of Michelle's unbelievable parenting skills, I've just got some happy, normal kids. And all that stuff that's going on around them, they just kind of miss. We have not seen any effects, any fishbowl effects, yet on them. Now, I worry about them when they're teenagers where, you know, you're already embarrassed about your parents and even more embarrassed on TV all the time. And dating I think will be an issue because I have men with guns surrounding them at all times [laughter], which I'm perfectly happy with, but they may feel differently about it.

The way that these girls appear to be being raised, I doubt that they will have anything to worry about when dating time comes around. Our First Lady says that her first priority is to raise her girls well. She seems to have a good handle on that. That is probably why they are handling this experience so well. They are truly a family to emulate, I am grateful that they are the people whom America has at its head.

They're ages are too young for the public to be worried about who they date. If the oldest is 10, and we're already halfway into the year, she'll be 14 by the time he's done with his first term, if he makes it to a second term. With such a perfectionist couple, and two daughters going to school, the real issue is "will the two make it to Harvard and Stanford?"

I am a male. I am the parent of two lovely daughters.

I so love the male parental attitude of POTUS Obama. In my case, I have my own guns. If I could have other, younger gun-toters to assign to this task, I would be onboard immediately.

I would love to have men with guns escorting my daughter on her dates. *sigh* It's hard having a pretty daughter. She's 9 years old, and I have to keep 14 year olds away from her. It's just distressing.
