Ramon Revilla is threatening to give Baldwin a beating if he ever dares set foot in the country after the star made a joke about getting a Filipino mail-order bride on Monday, May 18, 2009. MANILA, Philippines — Alec Baldwin's joke about getting a Filipino mail-order bride provoked a sharp response in the Philippines, with one senator saying Monday that the "30 Rock" star faces violence if he ever visits.

Baldwin, 51, who is divorced with a teenage daughter, said in a May 12 interview on "The Late Show" with David Letterman that he would love to have more children.

The Emmy-winning actor quipped that he was "thinking about getting a Filipino mail-order bride at this point ... or a Russian one."

Baldwin has been involved in a bitter dispute with his ex-wife, Oscar-winning actress Kim Basinger, over custody of their 13-year-old daughter, Ireland.

Philippine Sen. Ramon Revilla said Monday that Baldwin's comment was "insensitive and uncalled for" and an insult to millions of Filipinos.

He called the actor "arrogant" and said he is apparently unaware that the Philippines has a law against mail-order brides.

"Let him try to come here in the Philippines and he'll see mayhem," Revilla said, using a local idiom that implies the speaker will personally administer a beating.

The senator is a former action-movie star who occasionally still appears on Philippine TV.

Joke lang pero, Sen. Ravilla should get busy making sure the Philippines is in compliance with human trafficking laws instead of relaxing.

OK, apparently this is my bad for not reading carefully. I guess he said it in an interview. Still.

Dear Sen. Ramon Revilla,

Do you not understand the difference between Alec Baldwin and Jack Donaghy? You see, 30-Rock is pretend, and Jack Donaghy is a pretend person who says a lot of offensive and culturally-insensitive things. I hope that helps.

Warm regards.

alec baldwin has a major chip on his shoulder about women, and woman can see that. i think he should bow out of the public limelight and go work on himself for a while. he IS arrogant. and a jerk.

He's a brilliant actor and comedian, IMO. What he said is very mild humor. Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh say far more despicable things every day.

Are you seriously referring to the U.S. when you say that?
Pull your head out and look at our history both recent and past.

Of course not. She said "in the civilized world." We're not even civilized enough to consider health care a human right--and if other countries (who are civilized) do, we think they're wrong as hell.

Please read your history. Understand how much damage the United States inflicted on the Philippines (and continued to do so even after 1946), most especially on the economy. A good part of the reason is that the U.S. raped and pillaged the country while it ruled over the islands. Today, it continues as an economic and political bully.
Even playing field my ass. America, pay us back for all the lives you destroyed, wealth and resources you took unfairly, then we'll stop being your problem.

A friend of mine from way back got one of those brides from Philippines because I think he thought those folks' expectations were low and he could push her around. She was a cutie and ended up pushing him around! Best laid plans of men and mice...

Alec, women may just not be your forte - regardless of geographic origin!

As long as there are Americans willing to spend their dollars to get wives this way, the mail order bride industry is here to stay.

The documentary "Childern For Sale" by NBC showed young cambodian girls being sold to westerners for sex. It was a shame seeing this american doctor who went to cambodia to get 3 teenage girls for $60 a night.

Do you think parents would sell these children if there are no westerners willing to pay for underage sex?

Same logic goes to the mail order bride issue.

Um, yes, yes they would. Maybe not as sex-slaves, but one way or another. Desperate people have been selling their children for various and sundry reasons for just about forever.

'The west' may be the source of many problems, but it isn't responsible for everything, damn it.

There is a big difference between marrying for money and human trafficking. One is voluntary the other is not.

hang on! i'm a "lib" and I can't stand the way Baldwin treats women and talks about women.
i also think he is superficial and arrogant when he talks about politics. I agree with many things he "stands for," but I don't listen to him or read his blogs because his approach is so patronizing.

please don't assume that all "libs" think alike and blindly support anyone. we are individuals.

And incidentally...it's no mystery what would happen if Baldwin were right-wing. Fox Alleged News would be downplaying it as overreacting and stupid 24-7--which would make them right at least once this year, as much as I hate it.

No offense to Filipinos, but getting a Filipino wife is easier than drinking water... they're a dime a dozen. You only have to visit the Gulf region to see that they are so many of them and work for peanuts. So this senator should feel good that a Hollywood movie star wants to "marry" a Filipina and not use her solely for sexual pleasure.

It's called human trafficking...they smuggle or lure these women and girls, (some are children), and they enslave them.
