What's Your Reaction?

While his costars remain in the Mumbai slums nearly three months after their collective Oscar triumph, Ayush Mahesh Khedekar walked the red carpet in Cannes Monday night.

Ayush, Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail played the three main characters of the film at their youngest. Since the Oscars, Rubina and Azharuddin have returned to their life in the slums, with Rubina's house flooding with sewage and her father supposedly trying to sell her, while Azharuddin has gotten sick and had his home demolished.

Ayush is from a more prosperous background, and recently signed on to a new film, "Shyam's Secret," and is promoting it in Cannes for five days. See below for recent photos of all three.

The situation with the Slumdog kids makes me throw up in my mouth. These kids have literally been treated like pieces of scenery, thrown back into the slums from whence they were cast, and the Bollywood headliners with their Oxbridge accents preen on on the U.S. talk shows, and and the white director/producer/back end profits teams roll on, and it is disgusting.

gee, I wish the producers of slumdog do something to give these kids real security & proper homes-- the least they can do after getting all these kudos & awards as well as big $$$$'s .. at least do that, give them a proper future.

Are they still exploiting these kids? When are they going to dump them, when they change their voices or grow up no longer cute?

you know that buildings take time to construct right? They don't just appear moments after an oscar award.

Um, whatever, this housing should have been up a month ago; stop trying to defend the indefensible.

I think the director is waiting for people to stop paying attention to this issue and then quietly not fulfill his promise. He got what he needed from these children, they were clearly way outside of any union protection, and he's just going to roll along now hoping that nobody will call his pasty butt on his promise.

He is adorable. I wish I could take him, but I'm sure no one would allow it. I never had a son and I'm too old now.

Of course not. It's called kidnapping when you abduct children away from their parents. If you'd like to adopt I'm sure there are tons of kids without people to look after them that would love a home. I'm sure there are some adorable ones in there too :-p

Watch them tear his home down while he's at Cannes.

Did you read the post? Its not his house that was torn down "Ayush is from a more prosperous background". It would be proper to read the text before making comments. This shows the difference between illiterate parenets and educated ones. I guess Ayush's parents signed him up with an Agency. While the other parent tried to sell their kid.

( I was advised not to see this film if I was feeling depressed during the day I decided to see it. So far, I am not complete;ly free from depression since my grandmother died. Born april 22. She was my granmother on my mothers side. The jewish Hungarian Scottish side who said to me she married her hungarian Scottish English husband because he was in love wioth her, My grandfather died of a heart attack. Back in those days it was our new cancer. We did not know how to prolong heart attack victims prone to seizures. We just assumed they were parapralegics waiting to turn into something worse which was in those day a disease called Parkinsons. This was the first physical disease that affected the human body over the brain, and caused the medical rage of so many countries to go on missions to discover cures to origions of why we as smart as we are as humans still get sick, through all the intellectual advances of space, why can't we just slide and be taken care of with the rest of the dynamics of life? Nature should at least supply us with the rest of our needed miracles.
We need not know it all, but can we not know more to prevent us from ceasing to exist by at least making us smart enough to learn how to not htink about being ill, and think about being well?

I was told if you know when to smile and look into a camera without anyone telling you not ot because the cameras are unning, you know then to look into the camera because someone wants to see you, and then you get the chance to show your eyes in the film and no one will unlock you charm if you are a star, they will just hold onto your lifeline into infinite wisdom and beauty.

Is it me or does anyone else hear the theme to "The Twilight Zone" playing in their head?

Aren't these threads supposed to be even mildly related to preceding article?

I'm sorry for your loss, but I don't think this is the appropriate venue in which to seek help from your pain and grief. There are lots of support groups and message boards for that. I hope you find peace and come to terms with your grief, but advertising it on random articles on news sites is not the best way to deal with your grief.
