Cannes Fans Moon Over Robert Pattinson

CANNES, France — Robert Pattinson put some bite into the celebrity sightings at the Cannes Film Festival.

The British actor, who shot to heartthrob status last fall as the young stud bloodsucker in the hit vampire romance "Twilight," stopped by Cannes to talk up the sequel and catch a movie or two. Pattinson said he's still getting used to the fact that people know him wherever he goes.

"It is still strange," Pattinson said Tuesday. "I just don't get the immediate-recognition thing. I was at the Frankfurt airport yesterday, and people just immediately know who you are. It's never, 'Are you ...?' It's just like, 'Can I have a photo?'"

While at Cannes, Pattinson said he planned to see Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," which is in the festival's main competition.

He said he has four days of shooting left in Italy next week on "New Moon," the sequel based on Stephenie Meyers' best-sellers about a high school girl (Kristen Stewart) who falls for Pattinson's immortally young vampire.

The producers hired more guards than on "Twilight" to keep onlookers at bay for the "New Moon" shoot, but Pattinson said it turned out to be unnecessary.

"They had tons of security, but then at the end of the day actually, hardly anyone knew where we were shooting," Pattinson said. "I'm walking around with, like, three guys following me around all the time, and no one ever turned up. There was never any infiltrators."

I think he's a young hottie...b­ut the logical reason I think he was there aside from promoting that already gone straight to DVD movie Little Ashes is this is Cannes attempt to bring some young fresh blood into an old boring event. next year will be Jonas Brothers.

I can't wait to see the movie where he plays Salvador, that will either make or break him. If he does well, he may become the next Jonny Depp, if anyone disses Depp on this site, then you don't know anything about art.

Johnny Depp is a truly genius in his acting. Brilliant. I love Rob Pattinson, and I am also waiting for that movie, as I want to see his depth as an actor. I think he is still in the process of seeing what works best for him regarding acting roles. He's pretty young.

Rob Pattinson is a wonderful actor, musician, songwriter and singer. He's the real deal and will be around for a long time, or as long as he wants to be. Can't wait to see all the work he's going to do.

Why was he allowed at Cannes? Cannes Film Festival is for true films and actors. Not a bunch of washed-up, watered-down unattractive work from Hollywood.

He is there for Little Ashes. He plays Salvador Dali and it explores his gay relationship with poet Federico Lorca. Most theaters are not showing it, so you probably would not have heard about it.

Since when is Cannes just for *real* actors? Eva Longoria is there and as far as I can tell, Desperate Housewives doesn't count as art.
