Jessica Biel In Allure: My Beauty "Really Is A Problem"

Jessica Biel graces the June cover of Allure magazine, and inside she talks about boyfriend Justin Timberlake, marriage, and the cons of being so hot.

Biel, 27 says she wants a career like Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman, and that she struggles to get desirable parts:

"I'm in there with everybody else, fighting for the good parts. Yes, 'The Illusionist' has made a difference -- but a huge, massive difference, so I can pick and choose what I want? No."

She continues, "I just want an opportunity. If you don't like the audition, don't hire me! But if you don't want to even see me -- that's hurtful. And why? You know nothing about me!"

So are her good looks hurting? "It really is a problem," she says. "I have to be blunt."

As for her personal life, she isn't sure about marriage. "I have no idea if I want to get married. I have a lot to do, career-wise."

And she talks about dating Timberlake. "I mean, you love who you love! It's not like you meet somebody one day and say, 'OK, I'm not going to put up with his fame!' or 'Yes, I am going to put up with his celebrity,'" she says. "You can't choose that. It just happens to you."

Her talent's more the problem than her beauty. However as a girl, I have serious appreciation for her smokin body. Wish I had enough dedication to get mine where hers is.

Nothing like a six figure pay check to motivate you to get a smokin' figure. She's plays a stripper in her next movie and she had to get into even better shape. Plus she had a personal trainer and cook. We civilians have to do it ourselves. (RIght now I'm in my track suit but can't seem to make it out the door...)

As for people thinking she's full of herself, maybe, but I think what she meant was, she'd like to thought of as a Natalie or Scarlett -- beautiful AND talented/with a wide range. Right now, she feels like The Illusionist gave her some cred, but not enough; she's still thought of in some parts as the bombshell and not even being asked to read for certain parts. (Not that playing a stripper so early in career is really going to help this view.)

Wow...does she really think that she is on the same level as Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman? Because she isn't. Besides being beautiful Scarlett and Natalie are extremely talented. Jessica Biel doesn't even come close. I've seen better acting performances from college and high school theater kids. She will never be in the same league as Scarlett and Natalie, that includes career wise and looks wise (I personally don't think she's all that pretty at all).

How do you know what Jessica Biel can and cannot do? She's only ever had two-dimensional parts. Perhaps she can be great! And I don't personally think that Natalie Portman is anything but an expressionless mildly attractive woman.

If you have talent, there are ways to get it noticed. Farrah Fawcett proved that she could act by taking a major role in an off-Broadway stage production of "Extremities" -- lousy play, good actress. Options are available if you're serious about acting, not just about the payday.

I can't understand why I'm bothering to comment on this but she has irritated me for years. The only thing that's a "problem" is that she can't act. I don't understand how being too beautiful would hinder her from getting the role she wants. Is she trying to say that Johannson and Portman aren't as hot as her, that's why they get taken more seriously......'cause I would beg to differ on both cases. Man, it's gotta be tough for people like Oscar award winner Halle Berry to be taken seriously. I mean, really, when is Hollywood going to stop only looking to homely actresses and give the pretty ones a chance. She peaked at 7th Heaven.

The Illusionist was a really good movie but it would have been just as good with another actress in that role, I watched it mainly because of Paul Giamatti, Edward Norton and Rufus Sewell. In this interview excerpt Jessica Biel comes across as arrogant, there are many attractive women in Hollywood who get good roles who aren't out there complaining about their looks hindering their careers. I don't think it's the fact that her looks are hurting her career, I think there are a lot more talented actresses out there.

Her comment wasn't arrogant at all if you were a good-looking person and understood what she was hinting at. Fact is, in this society many not-so-good-looking-people are VERY resentful of those who are. It's seems as if they want to demand apologies (without actually saying it) from the good-looking people for existing. Then they retaliate out of pettiness and jealous insecurity often making life miserable for others, because they are miserable. Kinda like your and these other comments that inclined her not to elaborate and be blunt because she knows no matter HOW she explains, it would just pizz you off even more.

It's interesting that you're assuming I'm not good looking just because I don't happen to think she's that good of an actress. I think Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett and many others are good looking and fantastic actresses. Her acting skills are not top notch, although in The Illusionist she was okay. Perhaps she is your idea of a beauty, she isn't mine. Not that anything she says "pizz"es me off, as you would say. I don't have enough invested in any actor or actress that their words would get me riled up to any degree. I just think she's a bad interview.

The difference is that they have something called talent which was evident early on.

It sounded more like she was saying 'beauty' is an obstacle that few actresses succeed in surmounting. Charlize Theron's industry respect today and Jessica Lang's a generation ago were anomalies. Most actresses have a shelf life of lettuce. Natalie Portman is one of the few that has a decent career as a 'legitimate' actress, Scarlett not so much perhaps. Jessica Biel, by contrast, gets jobs that involve Adam Sandler touching her boobs as a joke.

What a talentless, ungrateful wretch! If it wasn't for her beauty, no one would think twice about her. She's terrible in everything she's in. This is the second time I've seen her complaining about being "too beautiful." I really hope there's someone in her life willing to say that she wouldn't have the money, fame, or rich celebrity boyfriend without her looks, because the talent is just not there.
