Meghan McCain went on the "Colbert Report" Monday night to discuss whether Republicans will win the youth vote by being open-minded on social issues or by learning to use Twitter. McCain's view: the first one. John McCain's daughter described herself as a "pro-sex Republican" and a "pro-sex woman," but she refused to lick Stephen Colbert's face or talk about Sarah Palin.

Still, Colbert concluded, "When you say 'pro-sex woman' I think the Republicans' numbers go north."

Mr. Colbert is obviously a Republican who's used socialist Jon Stewart to our NeoNeoCon advantage. Similarly, Meghan is a NeoNeoCon hottie who's wearing a socialist guise to slip into public favor, which I think is clever. Because if she really believe half of what she said, she'd be a Democrat, right?

Oh my, another republican who doesn't understand Colbert is just making fun of the repubs. keep thinking that way Leslie.

Really fuuny. Republicans have been so "dumbed down" that they think Colbert is Republican.

Wow, based on this comment and some of the others you've made I can't decide if this is all just elaborate satire or you're a nutcase. Let's hope for the former. Either way, keep up the entertainment.

Although Meghan McCain is very much a libertarian and doesn't resemble one iota of the modern Republican party, I think any step to marginalize and cleave the radicals from the GOP is a step in the right direction.

Stay out of our lives and don't waste our money. Isn't that the party that everyone wants? Wouldn't it be nice if it existed? If this girl can push the Republicans that way, more power to her.

Well said. I personally would vote Republican if they didn't insists on force-feeding everyone their "values."

I actually do agree with Meghan McCain. If only the GOP and Republican party would listen to her they wouldn't be going to Hell in a bread basket.

The Republican Party grew with the passage of the Civil Rights Act. Southern Democrats became "republicans" because they hated Lyndon Johnson for passing the Act that attempted to give black people equal education, voting rights, no job discrimination...etc.

So, since that is the basic reason many of these Southern states call themselves Red, the Republican Party has to address it's racism and hatred of minorities first of all, and that will be a very long fight.

Michael Steele is a joke. The Red states of the South are still in favor of segregation.

Its ironic that the only voice of reason in the whole republican party comes from a 24 year old girl. She's exactly right as to what the party needs to do -- divorce itself from the religious right and focus on civil liberties (i.e. government should have no place telling people what they should do, who they can or can't marry).

She may not articulate her point as well as she could and seems to not have a complete grasp on every key issue, but her political instinct are dead on.

I am 23 and I am all for speaking your mind however Meagan is being disrespectful in how she states her opinion sometimes. I am not a republican but I totally disagree about her taking little jabs at Bristol regardless. This is a young girl that is trying to do something, regardless if she thinks she is hypocritcal or wrong. Theres just so much complaining going around and not enough 'support' all Meagan is doing is adding to the chaos that is already there.

The Pubies live for "chaos theory" so Meagan is not doing anything here to hurt anyone. I admire her for having the moxy to speak out. The only way the Pubies will ever open the "big tent" they claim to be a part of is to allow the dialog Meagan is putting out there. Bristol Palin can say what she wants about "abstinence"...that is her opinion and I support her right to say it. However, we know that it does not work in the majority of cases. So if you don't want to get pregnant as a teenager, practice safe sex, have a method of birth control available to you, and for Gawd's sake let's as parents, tell the kids the truth up front...there are real consequences when you have a child, married or not, teen or not. We need to get past our reluctance to arm our kids with good sex education. The parents are failing their kids by protecting them from information because then they "might have sex"??? They are having sex anyway, so why not influence it as much as you can in a positive manner.

Hey, give Meaghan a break, she is very honest and open, which a lot more than most republicans.

She could makes a lot of good points.

Way to go Meaghan

She's a republican because she can't say she's a democrat or it would ruin her father. When her dad retires she'll come out of the closet.

I don't know what "fiscal conservative" means any more.
It seems like an outdated 1950's-type notion like "pro-family farm". What could fiscally conservative possibly mean in a world of super-rich oligarchs and radical 'wild west' derivative markets? All it *seems* to mean these days is no food aid to the poor, no oversight to the rich.

Part II

I changed my registration to Independent in 1996 and stopped voting for Republicans because they were too socially and environmentally conservative and they were too pro-business at the expense of workers and consumers. I know that I'm not alone in being a young, educated Caucasian who switched her allegience to another party. Therefore, the Republican Party should heed the kinds of things that Meghan Mc Cain and Republican moderates who are fleeing the party say. The party is going to have to change in ways that religious conservatives and pro-businees conservatives don't like if they hope to have former Republicans like me return to the fold. They need to stop castigating these people; otherwise, I'm going to keep on being an Independent who mostly votes Democrat.

You need to take back the Republican party. You and others like you can look at the most popular Republican President after Lincoln as the model for Republican success. Dwight D. Eisenhower left his office as popular as he went in. He is not revered by the Cons because he was a progressive Republican who brought wealth and prosperity to the U.S. in the 50's. He was not conservative but he was for fiscal discipline, progress and upward mobility. He got us out of Korea and warned us about the military /congressional industrial complex. He was for personal responsibility but not afraid of highlighting our social and civic responsibility as well.

Years after Ronald Reagan left office, there was a concerted effort to whitewash his legacy. The Reagan Legacy Project succeeded in doing just that. No one set up an Eisenhower Legacy Project which is why he is as obscure as Nixon in the eyes of the Republicans. Bring back the Eisenhower Republican.

You're right on the money, Bruisersmom. I believe in a balance of powers in a two-party (or multiple party) system and dislike the notion of one party becoming too powerful. But I will not encourage modern Republicans to be that balance because they've become nothing more than a disjointed caricature catering to the extremists in their party. And now that their power is faded considerably, they've abandoned all "principles" and are little more than obstructionist political opportunists.

Part I
My earliest memory is sitting in a park in Orange County to listen to a campaign speech by Ronald Reagan. My parents are lifelong Republicans who are having a hard time with Democrats being back in the White House. When I turned eighteen, I followed my parents into the party when I registered Republican; however, it only lasted for one election (Bush Senior when I was eighteen). By the next election, I was completely turned off by the conservative rhetoric of the 96 election. I checked back in briefly for 2000 election but was turned off again by Bush. He was too much of a good old boy religious conservative for me. I haven't been back to the fold yet and the door remains open for the Republican Party woo me.
