I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The Democratic advocacy group Americans United for Change is releasing a new ad comparing the president's economic policies to John F. Kennedy's Apollo project and lumping Republicans alongside "oil companies" in the opposition.

Titled "Jobs of the Future," the spot will begin airing on D.C. cable starting on Wednesday and throughout the week.

"Fifty years ago, a young President challenged us to put a man on the moon. John Kennedy's vision put America in the forefront of the technological revolution that created the jobs of the future -- for a generation Americans," reads the script. "Today President Obama has challenged us again -- to create the jobs of the future for our generation -- millions of clean energy jobs. But the oil companies and the Republicans just say no."

The ad comes roughly a week after several media outlets reported that Obama's stimulus package was not being implemented in an expeditious manner, and as Congress currently debates a climate change bill that proponents say would create "millions" of new green jobs.

Two key Democrats in the House -- Reps. John Dingell of Michigan and Gene Green of Texas -- have signaled support for the legislation, increasing its odds of passage. But Republican opposition won't be light.

"When the time comes," said Jeremy Funk, the communications director at Americans United for Change, "will the Party of NO help President Obama create millions of green jobs -- or keep looking out for big oil's bottom line?"

Obama not enough as he is? Got to add a JFK to make this vision hold. People lap this stuff up.

Currently Democrats under Obama's leadership are trying to enact legislation for green jobs and fight off the effects of global warming.

Currently Republicans under Steele are trying to convince the public that if gays are allowed to marry it will financially harm small business.

Now there is a comparison that is present day and out there for all to see!

Can someone tell me why gas prices are headed back to Republican levels?

I really don't believe consumption has increased all that much since January.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:36 PM on 05/19/2009

It never had to do with consumption, it had everything to do with price manipulation by commodities traders.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:49 PM on 05/19/2009

its not about consumption, its called summer is coming and this is the time of year they jack up prices, and they'll continue to lower and raise prices until we're finally making efforts 2 really get us of oil.

Not bad. It certainly gets the message across : us progressives, always aiming big and looking forward, and them conservatives always anti-progress and stuck in the past.

FDR said it best too: "a conservative is a man with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned to walk forward."

Or in the words os another great, Lincoln :" What is this conservatism? Is it not adherence to the old and tried, against the new and untried?"

The GOP base is still shrinking -- so who are they saying NO for? Love moving "forward" -- it just gets better and better. PEACE, global love - Earth respect....

Let' see I am 50 years old. I was one year old when JFK was sworn in. How many people reading this article or watching that ad or have an opinion about it can say Obama is anything like JFK or the myth?

I see you completely missed the point. Maybe you should watch the ad again and stay off the headlines.

right here eposter.... I was almost 20 yrs old when JFK was killed. I remember it vividly. I remember how the ENTIRE world mourned, just as the ENTIRE world rejoiced when we elected Obama. How's that for a comparison?

I'm 52, and I"ve read enough books and watched enough television specials that I feel I can have a reasonable opinion about the ways in which Obama is like JFK.

For starters, he's incredibly charismatic.
He's intelligent.
He does NOT come from a rich, incredibly powerful family.
He does NOT seem to have a death wish for Castro, Saddam Hussein, or other foreign leaders.
He does NOT seem to be maintaining mistresses on the side, or be friends of mobsters.
He's physically atttractive.
He is NOT physically infirm.
He looks toward the future and isn't continually stuck in the present.
He appears to be much better at negotiation, and compromising than JFK ever was.

How's that?

I'm 64 and I remember JFK vividly. I remember how the ENTIRE WORLD mourned him and I saw how the ENTIRE WORLD rejoiced in the election of Obama. How's that for a comparison?

I will definitely agree with you on one thing, Wadenelson : President Obama does not have a "death wish" concerning Saddam Hussein.

Throughout recorded human history, having a "death wish", concerning individuals who have already been dead for a number of years, has always remained "pretty much of a non-starter".

Your mastery of logical dialectic, Wadenelson, is virtually Aristotelian.

I think we've finally found someone in you, Wadenelson, who's fully capable of explaining to us the true intelligence of President Obama.

I don't know that all the books you've read in your life, ALONE, Wadenelson, can fully explain this unique capacity of your's.

If you must know, my actual feeling is that it's all those television specials you've watched, ON TOP OF all the books you've read, that will now make you MY international authority of choice to go to, where questions of comparing BHO to JFK are concerned.

Let's see, I am 60+ years old, and though I was only a child when Kennedy was elected, I vividly remember the excitement and hope that infused our nation when he became President, and the unspeakable grief that surrounded his death.

Since this ad compares the vision Kennedy inspired with the vision President Obama inspires, I think I can speak for many when I say that the comparison is valid. Just as President Kennedy challenged us to aspire to our higher selves as a nation, so too has President Obama.

So YES! In my opinion, and in the context of this ad, President Obama is like John Kennedy.

We should be kind to the other side. Remember the U.S. has just come out of 8 yrs. of having having the WH headed by someone without a brain. This situation had an effect on some americans and it's still showing. Let's praise those who have shaken off the effects and opened their eyes to the new brighter days ahead for the country.
