Even though I don't see anything particularly new in these plans, we should at least welcome this return to vigorous diplomacy after the last administration's fairy tale belief that by democratizing Iraq at gunpoint we'd somehow trigger a reverse domino-effect as a shocked-and-awed Arab People rose up as one to embrace Jeffersonian ideals...... oh my.......to laugh or cry.........? One serious problem with the plan being that both sides have already rejected the idea of a divided Jerusalem policed by the UN. But one has to start somewhere, and Obama is nothing if not tenacious, and -- judging by his..... uhm....... shall we say 'free-form' response to the financial meltdown -- sufficiently pragmatic and flexible to go to plans B, C and D if necessary. Pigs may be flying in a frozen Hell before it happens, but I'm pretty sure that the day that Israel is truly convinced that Iran and the Arab world is prepared to live in peace side by side with Israel, then even someone as belligerent and intractable as Netanyahu would be prepared to compromise as needed to finally bring peace to his country, since the current situation is clearly unsustainable indefinitely.
Never gonna work. First of all, either you put the entire city of Jerusalem under international jurisdiction or none of it. Then ALL SETTLEMENTS in the West Bank AND in East Jerusalem must come down. Then, what price can you put on those who will be refused right of return to their homes, because their homes and land were in Israel and were taken over by Israelis?
Why is it that Palestinians are the ones who must always give up the most?
