The human genome project really was just such a monumental step forward in scientific knowledge. It was only completed while I was in college and yet in just a few years we have been able to find out so much about how our genes effect us in every aspect of human existance: in terms of our behavior, our biology, our relation to other animals, how we evolved, how we get sick, etc. Who knows where we will be one hundred years from now!

We have already learned so much in medical fields such as cancer and heart disease research through genetics, and how wonderful it is to hear that now it may be able to open up some new insights for the autistic community as well.

Eagle House Group are an independent autism school group providing quality education and care for children and young people aged 2-25 years. A friend of mine has a little girl who has recently joined one of their schools and she is really enjoying it there. I just wanted to let people know about what a great school network they have got. Check out their website if your interested - http://www.eaglehousegroup.co.uk/

Ah, more evidence that autism is possibly genetic. Or perhaps more boys get vaccinations than girls.

Let the woo begin.

how about we dont! And remember oh mighty worshipper of science- your side started it up on here! not some "anti vaccine" weirdo! Do 75% of the people on this blog only want to fight about this issue!

As a middle of the road positioned person- it doesn't even remotely mean that there is no enviromental trigger! It is not an "either or question" at all! A person can be predisposed to a condition and never get it!

"mighty worshipper[sic] of science"?
How does one worship knowledge, facts, evidence, reproducible results? Very odd thing to say.

"your side"?
My side, huh? I usually take the position of truth, reason, logic. I let the facts speak for themselves, the only cheerleading needed in when there are those that don't understand it.

Autism is a spectrum of disorders, not a specific disease. Causes for any disease or disorder can of course be a combination of biological and environmental. But, there does seem to be increasing evidence that some of the disorders that fall under the autism spectrum are genetic. There hasn't been any substantiated evidence yet that there's any environmental correlation or causation.

if you don't acknowledge vaccine reactions can lead to autism you are either ignorant of the fact or are disengenuous. The way your posts read I'd wager both are true but hope I am wrong. We have to get past this childish quibbling. Possibly genetic? EVERYTHING ABOUT US IS POSSIBLY GENETIC!

Great info-I am sooo happy that it seems so much effort is being put in for these people who are affected by this.
