I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Whoopi Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck went on "The View" today. It did NOT go well.

Nevertheless, it was DELIGHTFUL, by God. In the clip below, watch as Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldberg pin Beck down for lying on the radio about an encounter they all had on the train to the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Beck is forced, at first, to walk back his "mischaracterization" of the encounter. But then, things go ZOMGY as Goldberg calls him a "LYING SACK OF DOG MESS," which is hilarious. Then Walters freaks out on him for claiming to be a reporter and yet not bothering to check his facts. And really, it just gets even more bonkers from there. Honestly, if you were to take a drink every time Beck comes off as totally disingenuous, you will require a new liver by the end of the segment. DO NOT DO THIS, OBVIOUSLY.

[WATCH.]

In the second segment, the discussion gets itself partially back on the rails, but only in that the show's hosts are no longer venting their aggravation with Beck telling falsehoods about their train encounter. Beck talks about how he hates everyone in Congress and how everyone should resign. But then Beck gets stumped by a question from Barbara: "What are your real convictions?"

His answer: "I believe in God. I believe in the founding of this country. I believe George Washington, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson were geniuses."

So there you have it. Glenn Beck really, really believes in God, the names of some Presidents, and that the United States was founded, somehow, at some point in the past.

UPDATE: Via Media Monitor Teri McCarthy, here's the second part, which goes okay until Walters starts asking Beck for his convictions:

Story continues below

ANOTHER UPDATE: Glenn is TERRIBLE upset at the terrible way the View ambushed him, like they were his Fox colleague, Bill O'Reilly or something!

Glenn knew this wasn't going to be pretty -- but his interview with the ladies on The View was even worse than anticipated, mostly because they wasted an entire segment on accusations that Glenn 'lied' about who said hello to who first on his Amtrak train ride with Barbara and Whoopi to the Correspondents dinner in Washington DC. The saddest part is that not only did they waste an entire segment on a completely insignificant, petty, humorless and incidental point - Glenn had already clarified the point the day before! Tune in to Fox News tonight at 5pm for Glenn's first response to the 'liar liar pants on fire' ambush interview by the ladies on The View.

A LAST UPDATE: Glenn Beck called into his own show today to respond to the way he was treated on The View - something he could have done whilst actually on the show while it was happening but didn't, I guess. This is called "pulling a Jim Cramer."

Watch:

BECK: Judge, you listen to my radio show. I tell stories. I tell about experiences of my life and everything else, and I told the story about riding on the train with the two ladies of The View, and apparently I was a liar because I said that -- which is true, that she -- Barbara Walters said hello to me. Instead, it was I said hello to Barbara Walters. I walked up to her -- I guess that's what we need to spend our time on for 7 minutes.

As usual, Beck is being disingenuous by reducing the whole encounter to a dispute over who said hello to who first. In actuality, the "story" Beck told was about how: 1) Goldberg and Walters reserved seats on Amtrak, the subtext being that they were acting like some sort of celebrity divas, 2) implied that Walters was unpleasant in her conversation by affecting a mocking and exaggerated imitation of her voice, and 3) implied that it was Beck's great influence and magnetism that caused the View ladies to approach him and seek his attention, when in actuality, it was the reverse.

Beck took leave of his show thusly:

BECK: What kind of person would go on national radio and say he introduced himself or they introduced themselves to him when, indeed, the truth, your honor, is that he introduced himself to them?

NAPOLITANO: Oh, boy. are you going to be back tomorrow, big guy?

BECK: I'm going to hang up the phone, take a little more Nyquil so I can rest medicine.

The answer to your first question is "a lying sack of dog mess." Enjoy getting bombed on Nyquil, though!

ANOTHER UPDATE: Glenn Beck complained and complained and complained that Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters had got a seat on Amtrak reserved. This aspect of the story wasn't of much concern to me. But it mattered to Beck, greatly. As it turns out, this great mystery has been penetrated: at the request of ABC News, Amtrak held seats for Goldberg and Walters.

What remains an extant concern is of course, Beck's depiction of his encounter with Goldberg and Walters. Why did Beck go on the radio and distort the encounter, making it seem like the pleasant exchange that all parties had was unpleasant? Why did he go out of his way to make it seem like the View hosts were "acting like some sort of celebrity divas?" Why did he feel the need to ruthlessly mock Walters, adopting a mocking imitation, and portraying her as some sort of harridan? The two View hosts clearly believed that they had had a cordial conversation, and were obviously very taken aback at the way Beck described their conversation to his radio listeners. And when confronted on the View, Beck's first instinct -- the correct one -- was to apologize.

Beck needs to clear this matter up, because it sure makes him look like a lying sack of dog mess!

Now that it has come out that ABC requested special treatment for Mrs. Walters and entourage-an apology is in order to Mr. Beck.

next time Ms. Walters needs to check her facts.

by the way alot of people comments on the view message board asking for a apology to Glenn Beck have been deleted. Imagine that censorship on the view message boards.

There were two things Beck "apparently lied" about:

1) Amtrak reserved seats for Whoopie and Babs
2) Ms. Walters approached Beck on the train

Breitbart has now uncovered proof that ABC requested Amtrak provide “special treatment” including police escort for the View stars (Lie #1 debunked--Beck did not lie). Lie #2 was based on something that Beck didn't even say (but apologized for anyway--on the View). http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=352443

Assuming Ms. Walters & Goldberg did not know about the ABC request, I guess they will now issue an apology now that the facts have all been checked--I'm not holding my breath.

Judge Andrew Napolitano (or what I remember of his hyperbolic annoying set-up question to Beck): "You mean we have the Speaker of the House committing treason, Iran and Israel on the verge of the Apocalypse, and an Obama Administration heck bent on turning us into a communist nation, and all the ladies on the View care about is determining who spoke to whom first on a train? Really, Glenn? Really?"

Seriously, dude: Ugh. Big ugh. Moronic does not do justice to that question, but it will have to do as I must now go to the farmer's market and enrich my day.

Glenn Beck?

This is a relatively minor lie, but it is a stone of the entire foundation of his inability to speak much truth.
He admitted that he does no research...whadda DUH moment.
Beck admittedly doesn't fact check, isn't a journalist and misspeaks.
He's a paid entertainer that makes vile statements with no backing.

His demeanor was pure cowering to begin with...anyone would smell fear on the man before the segment started.

Why did Glen bring Pelosi's name into play during the discussion?

To divert attention from the subject at hand and also to hope Elizabeth Hasselbeck would come to his aid.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck?

There may be hope with her though...she did disown "Joe The Plumber" whom she stood up for so boldly during the campaign and after.

i remember when BW landed her first job on the nightly new - the guy she did the news with stated that she was going to diminish the profession - everyone, all the women libbers were so upset that this guy dismissed her - but he was right - it's not that she is a woman, that is not the problem. She is stupid. That is the problem. He was so right.

She's stupid?

There might be a lot of things one could dislike about Barbara Walters. But if Glenn Beck could improve his intellect by a factor of 10, he might start to approach Walters' intelligence. You, maybe 20.

Stupid?

You might want to go back to those 4-5 word posts.

Beck is just another "dish it out but can't take it" whiner.

Whoopi, Joy, Barbara - you go girls! You were fantastic.

I watched the entire segment and Beck was so out-classed by the intelligence and ethics of Whoopi, Barbara, Joy, and the morality of Sherri, he could only stutter. He actually appeared to fear them (as well he should).

Poor little Faux-pas Lizzie just sat in her corner somewhat dumbstruck when he was forced to admit he was a liar.

Good work View women!

Man, Whoopi blew it.
She should have called Glen Beck a "Lying sack of CR@P", and then most importantly should 've said "BLINK BLINK!" after that. That would've made my year!

Beck has convictions. If I'm not mistaken, he believes that an ancient Hebrew guy named Nephi came to the United States some 2500 years ago with his brothers and his father. Then, the bad brother tribe (the Laminites) broke away from the good brother tribe (the Nephites). They fought each other (and so on and so on, too much to be described in detail, says Nephi). Then, over time, the Laimintes killed the Nephites, and, of course, what remained were what the Gentiles called "Indians." All of this was recorded by the prophet Moromon around 300 CE, on golden plates. In the early 19th century, a young man named Joseph Smith was "digging for money" when he chanced upon the angel Moroni who showed him where the golden plates were buried. Joseph Smith dug up the plates, and transcribed them with his "seeing stone." Flash forward to 2009 on the View (and thus and thus and so on and so on): Bang! Glenn Beck is the logical result. See, he has convictions. Really. He just doesn't want to proselytize.

Hey! Thanks for offending 13 million Mormons (or is it "Moromons"?). What you seem to be saying is: Mormon = deluded, stupid liar. Ignorant people have been saying things like that for years--we are used to it.

Actually, Mormons, as a whole, index higher in terms of college and post-graduate education and 2nd language fluency than the national average. And there are plenty of accomplished Mormons (presumably stupid liars) in science, government & education. You could always google it if you are interested. One of my close practicing Mormon friends, Woodrow W. Bledsoe, was a Computer Science professor at the University of Texas and a pioneer in Artificial Intelligence (to the extent that he was on the Unabomber’s hit list).

We all probably believe strongly in something that the next guy might find (or used to find) ridiculous. Some possible examples include: transubstantiation, reincarnation, eugenics, communism, global warming/cooling (depending on the decade), leaches, heliocentrism, etc … As you can see, the examples run the gamut from religion-to-politics-to-science.

I get that you really don’t like Glen, but your statement exposes you embarrassingly as a bigot.
