I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Whoopi Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck went on "The View" today. It did NOT go well.

Nevertheless, it was DELIGHTFUL, by God. In the clip below, watch as Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldberg pin Beck down for lying on the radio about an encounter they all had on the train to the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Beck is forced, at first, to walk back his "mischaracterization" of the encounter. But then, things go ZOMGY as Goldberg calls him a "LYING SACK OF DOG MESS," which is hilarious. Then Walters freaks out on him for claiming to be a reporter and yet not bothering to check his facts. And really, it just gets even more bonkers from there. Honestly, if you were to take a drink every time Beck comes off as totally disingenuous, you will require a new liver by the end of the segment. DO NOT DO THIS, OBVIOUSLY.

[WATCH.]

In the second segment, the discussion gets itself partially back on the rails, but only in that the show's hosts are no longer venting their aggravation with Beck telling falsehoods about their train encounter. Beck talks about how he hates everyone in Congress and how everyone should resign. But then Beck gets stumped by a question from Barbara: "What are your real convictions?"

His answer: "I believe in God. I believe in the founding of this country. I believe George Washington, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson were geniuses."

So there you have it. Glenn Beck really, really believes in God, the names of some Presidents, and that the United States was founded, somehow, at some point in the past.

UPDATE: Via Media Monitor Teri McCarthy, here's the second part, which goes okay until Walters starts asking Beck for his convictions:

Story continues below

ANOTHER UPDATE: Glenn is TERRIBLE upset at the terrible way the View ambushed him, like they were his Fox colleague, Bill O'Reilly or something!

Glenn knew this wasn't going to be pretty -- but his interview with the ladies on The View was even worse than anticipated, mostly because they wasted an entire segment on accusations that Glenn 'lied' about who said hello to who first on his Amtrak train ride with Barbara and Whoopi to the Correspondents dinner in Washington DC. The saddest part is that not only did they waste an entire segment on a completely insignificant, petty, humorless and incidental point - Glenn had already clarified the point the day before! Tune in to Fox News tonight at 5pm for Glenn's first response to the 'liar liar pants on fire' ambush interview by the ladies on The View.

A LAST UPDATE: Glenn Beck called into his own show today to respond to the way he was treated on The View - something he could have done whilst actually on the show while it was happening but didn't, I guess. This is called "pulling a Jim Cramer."

Watch:

BECK: Judge, you listen to my radio show. I tell stories. I tell about experiences of my life and everything else, and I told the story about riding on the train with the two ladies of The View, and apparently I was a liar because I said that -- which is true, that she -- Barbara Walters said hello to me. Instead, it was I said hello to Barbara Walters. I walked up to her -- I guess that's what we need to spend our time on for 7 minutes.

As usual, Beck is being disingenuous by reducing the whole encounter to a dispute over who said hello to who first. In actuality, the "story" Beck told was about how: 1) Goldberg and Walters reserved seats on Amtrak, the subtext being that they were acting like some sort of celebrity divas, 2) implied that Walters was unpleasant in her conversation by affecting a mocking and exaggerated imitation of her voice, and 3) implied that it was Beck's great influence and magnetism that caused the View ladies to approach him and seek his attention, when in actuality, it was the reverse.

Beck took leave of his show thusly:

BECK: What kind of person would go on national radio and say he introduced himself or they introduced themselves to him when, indeed, the truth, your honor, is that he introduced himself to them?

NAPOLITANO: Oh, boy. are you going to be back tomorrow, big guy?

BECK: I'm going to hang up the phone, take a little more Nyquil so I can rest medicine.

The answer to your first question is "a lying sack of dog mess." Enjoy getting bombed on Nyquil, though!

ANOTHER UPDATE: Glenn Beck complained and complained and complained that Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters had got a seat on Amtrak reserved. This aspect of the story wasn't of much concern to me. But it mattered to Beck, greatly. As it turns out, this great mystery has been penetrated: at the request of ABC News, Amtrak held seats for Goldberg and Walters.

What remains an extant concern is of course, Beck's depiction of his encounter with Goldberg and Walters. Why did Beck go on the radio and distort the encounter, making it seem like the pleasant exchange that all parties had was unpleasant? Why did he go out of his way to make it seem like the View hosts were "acting like some sort of celebrity divas?" Why did he feel the need to ruthlessly mock Walters, adopting a mocking imitation, and portraying her as some sort of harridan? The two View hosts clearly believed that they had had a cordial conversation, and were obviously very taken aback at the way Beck described their conversation to his radio listeners. And when confronted on the View, Beck's first instinct -- the correct one -- was to apologize.

Beck needs to clear this matter up, because it sure makes him look like a lying sack of dog mess!

The right wingers appear to lie with such ease. I wonder why that is????? Maybe it is because so many of them ahve been living a lie their entire lives-closeted homosexuals.

I'm confused by your first sentence. Did you mean it exactly in the way you wrote it? The right wingers "appear" to lie with such ease; does that mean it is an appearance that they lie with such ease, but they really don't lie? Is it The rightwingers "appear" to lie with such ease, but it is hard for them? Did you mean right wingers lie with such ease? That would be an actual statement that reveals, without question, what it is you do mean. With "appear" in the sentence, it is unclear as to which of these (if any) that you mean. You ask I wonder why that is????? (If you figure out which it is, then you will be more likely to find out why that is.)

Answering your own question, "maybe", infers that it is questionable as to whether
so many of them have been living a lie their entire lives-closeted homosexuals. Your own answer is then a question, not a statement of fact. You are not sure so many of them have been living a lie their entire lives-closeted homosexuals. "Maybe" is only a possibility that this is true. The "maybe" takes away any responsibility that you are saying that they are living a lie their entire lives-closeted homosexuals. You don't actually say it as fact, you do not need to have evidence.

I am no longer confused as to what you mean. You are confused as to what you are saying.

I often wonder how a pit like Glenn Beck gets a show on a major media outlet to vent his views. When do I get mine? Or you yours? H e and Bill O can stick it.

The whole gist of going through seven minutes of their time to exact the truth from Beck was to make the point that he is a liar and can't be trusted to pass on facts without shading them with his biases therefore making him less than reliable. This is a very important point because it takes any authenticity away from his show or ability to convince others that he is in fact someone worth respecting the views of. Beck feels that the seven minutes were wasted, I wonder how he felt about the seven minutes that George Bush spent sitting on his butt while the Country was under attack during 9/11. Were those well used minutes?

Whoopi has a way with words. With succinct precision Whoopi's surgical description encapsulated all that is the essence of Glenn Beck.

When students in future generations examine the Oxford Dictionary entry, Glenn Beck, there it will be for all time "a lying sack of dog-sh*t".

She (Barbara) has position, money, influence and age, all of which Beck will and must defer to simply because he knows he must. Being a closet bigot he demonstrates his obvious predjudice by ignoring Whoopi as much as is possible. Besides he knows Whoopi is forthrightly hostile to him while Barbara is at least going through the formal pretense of being respectful.

Since no one else will, I will. Beck and all the rest of his type hate Obama Whoopi and all, because they are black. Let's stop fudging around words here and be real. These so called conservatives are racists without the balls to say the "n" word even thought they are itching to do it.

I predict that one day soon one of them will break and spill it, and then the truth will be clear as day, but of course somehow or another they'll try to sweep it under the rug.

Some people such as yourself that make ridiculouus claims are so clouded with hate for the 'other side' that you neglect to see your own arrogance.

It's their policies that I abhor, not their race. I will add Dodd, Frank & Paulson in with them, better now?

Correct me if I am wrong (and I KNOW you will)...but after reading more and more about this, I now understand that Amtrak does not reserve PARTICULAR seats...they only guarantee A SEAT on the train. According to Beck's assistant, these PARTICULAR SEATS were being "held" by an Amtrak person breaking the rules (apparantly star struck). This is the sort of thing that goes on all the time for celebrities. Rush Limbaugh, to his credit, is VERY careful to pay for everything and not accept special treatment like this. I suspect that Glenn Beck is the same way. The term "limousine liberal" has much truth in it.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:07 PM on 05/22/2009

I don't think you listened correctly. They said the he (Glenn Beck) introduced himself to them meaning that they were already there seated. How was he to know if they had reserved the seats or not? Furthermore, they admitted that they did not reserve the seats. Finally, if you listened to the video, Beck admits that he didn't check his facts (he is "a commentator" not a journalist) so the argument about reserving seats is kind of moot.

"President of the Harvard Law Review. Professor of Constitutional Law. He is so qualified he cremated McCain in the election. Unqualified would be your candidate Sarah Palin who thinks she knows foreign policy because she can see Russia from her home."

Wow, my mistake. You're absolutely right, that more than qualifies him to be president. The fact that McCain is a war hero and has spent 25 years as a US Senator is irrelevant. Sarah Palin is unqualified, but she wasn't running for president, was she? So, let me get this straight, he's a lawyer, so he's qualified to be president? That makes perfect sense.

McCain a war hero? That's funny cause I don't look at the simple fact that he spent time in a Vietnamese prison camp as heroic, more like being a involuntary victim. That isn't the same as being a hero. To many people throw around the "hero' label indiscriminately because they have no clue what a real hero is. Audie Murphy was a hero, he has the medals and the recorded facts to prove it, Ronald Reagan wasn't since all he did was work for the Propaganda division of the U.S, Army. McCain did his job bombing targets from the sky. You can do a job like that with impunity until the day comes that a missile gets you or some other pilot sets his sights on you. But that only needs to happen once, after that you're either dead or a prisoner. You can't escape those facts. Grunts on the other hand faced death just about every day when they were out in the field, because if you weren't being shot at, you could get waxed by a mine or booby trap. That doesn't necessarily make you a hero either. As our D.I. told us in Boot Camp ,"It's your job, it's what's expected of you, and you don't want to die for your countrty, you want to make the other poor bastard die for his." Simple as that.

he is smart. Period. Smart people are good at anything they do. That is the ultimate qualification, proven by Bush. His family has been in politics since before his daddy wore diapers but his stupidity trumped all of his long history of experience.

ENOUGH!!! Swallow your bitter pill and move on. We have a smart president and if you have any intelligence yourselves you would be happy about that. Criticize him on his actions now, and not on his past, which is in fact superior to the crook, football player, actor, and clown business man that preceded him.

"Not if it's what's necessary to keep us from getting to 25% unemployment and a significant percentage of our citizenry living on the streets, no. Unless you have a cost-free or cost-less solution, simply labeling the solution we're implementing as "insane spending" does not render it a bad solution. Again, YOU think $4 trillion is insane... most economists think it's insufficient, that we need to spend more."

You can't be serious. First of all, stop using non-existent words like "citizenry" and where are you getting your facts from? Most economists think we're not spending enough? Please cite these sources. I keep forgetting, FDR's "new deal" in the 1930's pulled us out of the depression very quickly with rampant spending. Oh, wait, that didn't happen.

“Please reference ANY legal or historical document that states qualifications for president with an exclusionary clause for those of Obama's that you cite. Otherwise, more unsubstantiated opinion.”

Legality is irrelevant. Just because he is legally qualified to be president (he’s 35 years old, he’s a US citizen, etc.), doesn’t mean he IS qualified. There’s a difference.

“See my response to your laughably uninformed post about communism, socialism, and the USSR.”

You honestly think I didn’t realize the USSR collapsed? Wow. It’s sarcasm, my man.

Obviously you are the one who does not understand economics. If a man owns land covered by a forest and decides; "Man I could get rich making furniture with all this wood" do you think he can just take an ax and chop furniture out of trees? No. He has to build a factory, buy equipment, hire workers, but materials; he has to invest--a.k.a "spend money" first. Build infrastructure then he can produce.

The bank bail out was a horrific swindle that Obama and Bush both fell for, but the stimulus bill is absolutely necessary. It's an investment. High speed rail, solar+wind energy, etc, will have a "trickle up effect" requiring new business to be established, that will be supported by other business, and so on.

What conservatives don't understand is that the "trickle down" method absolutely can not work, only "trickle up". Iron does not come out of the ground already smelted. You have to "trickle it up" from dust into steel. The rich do not get rich of the rich, but off the poor. All money ultimately comes from the laborer who is a slave to his paycheck. By not taking care of the foundation (the working man) the penthouse at the top of the pyramid is bound to crumble... but then again people like you can't grasp simple reality. You are too trapped in your words because you think mixing words makes you smart.

If this "stimulus bill" is so necessary, why have we only used 5% of it so far? I thought it was an emergency to get this thing passed. If I go bankrupt, the smartest thing I can do is take out 10 more credit cards and go on a spending spree. Yes, that makes all the sense in the world.

I don't know why anybody with a different opinion than these cackling chickens would visit them in their hen house. You can’t argue with them with the same level of frothy vitriol and bad language because then your are accused of treating women badly. The problem for guys like Beck is that he goes on thinking he will be treated professionally and with respect. It is like a woman seducing you into the kitchen and then starts yelling and hitting you over the head repeatedly with a frying pan (probably your kitchen and your pan since you do most of the cooking now). What are you going to do but keep getting hit while you try to get a word in?

I have watched the shows with the Men you respect so much and gotten the impression that they aren't in any way different from the way that you describe the View. Whenever your Conservative host gets someone on to interview, they already know that they are in their "House" and therefore have hometeam advantage. This they use to great effect. They also raise their voices to the level used by Pitchmen so that they can Impress and Dominate their Victim. They cut off or talk over their victim as often and much as possible. All the while they have this insufferable smirk on their faces like they think they know something important. Kind of like the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.
I don't defend the View because the one thing that they do which I don't like is that a lot of the time the all talk at once, and it gets nervewracking. But I do understand the point that they were making with Beck. That he like many Conservative hosts, is a Boor, a Bully and a liar who has no shame about it. That is a truth. That fact that many of you Conservatives here admire and like these guys like Beck proves that none of you are worth considering either.
