I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Whoopi Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck went on "The View" today. It did NOT go well.

Nevertheless, it was DELIGHTFUL, by God. In the clip below, watch as Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldberg pin Beck down for lying on the radio about an encounter they all had on the train to the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Beck is forced, at first, to walk back his "mischaracterization" of the encounter. But then, things go ZOMGY as Goldberg calls him a "LYING SACK OF DOG MESS," which is hilarious. Then Walters freaks out on him for claiming to be a reporter and yet not bothering to check his facts. And really, it just gets even more bonkers from there. Honestly, if you were to take a drink every time Beck comes off as totally disingenuous, you will require a new liver by the end of the segment. DO NOT DO THIS, OBVIOUSLY.

[WATCH.]

In the second segment, the discussion gets itself partially back on the rails, but only in that the show's hosts are no longer venting their aggravation with Beck telling falsehoods about their train encounter. Beck talks about how he hates everyone in Congress and how everyone should resign. But then Beck gets stumped by a question from Barbara: "What are your real convictions?"

His answer: "I believe in God. I believe in the founding of this country. I believe George Washington, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson were geniuses."

So there you have it. Glenn Beck really, really believes in God, the names of some Presidents, and that the United States was founded, somehow, at some point in the past.

UPDATE: Via Media Monitor Teri McCarthy, here's the second part, which goes okay until Walters starts asking Beck for his convictions:

Story continues below

ANOTHER UPDATE: Glenn is TERRIBLE upset at the terrible way the View ambushed him, like they were his Fox colleague, Bill O'Reilly or something!

Glenn knew this wasn't going to be pretty -- but his interview with the ladies on The View was even worse than anticipated, mostly because they wasted an entire segment on accusations that Glenn 'lied' about who said hello to who first on his Amtrak train ride with Barbara and Whoopi to the Correspondents dinner in Washington DC. The saddest part is that not only did they waste an entire segment on a completely insignificant, petty, humorless and incidental point - Glenn had already clarified the point the day before! Tune in to Fox News tonight at 5pm for Glenn's first response to the 'liar liar pants on fire' ambush interview by the ladies on The View.

A LAST UPDATE: Glenn Beck called into his own show today to respond to the way he was treated on The View - something he could have done whilst actually on the show while it was happening but didn't, I guess. This is called "pulling a Jim Cramer."

Watch:

BECK: Judge, you listen to my radio show. I tell stories. I tell about experiences of my life and everything else, and I told the story about riding on the train with the two ladies of The View, and apparently I was a liar because I said that -- which is true, that she -- Barbara Walters said hello to me. Instead, it was I said hello to Barbara Walters. I walked up to her -- I guess that's what we need to spend our time on for 7 minutes.

As usual, Beck is being disingenuous by reducing the whole encounter to a dispute over who said hello to who first. In actuality, the "story" Beck told was about how: 1) Goldberg and Walters reserved seats on Amtrak, the subtext being that they were acting like some sort of celebrity divas, 2) implied that Walters was unpleasant in her conversation by affecting a mocking and exaggerated imitation of her voice, and 3) implied that it was Beck's great influence and magnetism that caused the View ladies to approach him and seek his attention, when in actuality, it was the reverse.

Beck took leave of his show thusly:

BECK: What kind of person would go on national radio and say he introduced himself or they introduced themselves to him when, indeed, the truth, your honor, is that he introduced himself to them?

NAPOLITANO: Oh, boy. are you going to be back tomorrow, big guy?

BECK: I'm going to hang up the phone, take a little more Nyquil so I can rest medicine.

The answer to your first question is "a lying sack of dog mess." Enjoy getting bombed on Nyquil, though!

ANOTHER UPDATE: Glenn Beck complained and complained and complained that Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters had got a seat on Amtrak reserved. This aspect of the story wasn't of much concern to me. But it mattered to Beck, greatly. As it turns out, this great mystery has been penetrated: at the request of ABC News, Amtrak held seats for Goldberg and Walters.

What remains an extant concern is of course, Beck's depiction of his encounter with Goldberg and Walters. Why did Beck go on the radio and distort the encounter, making it seem like the pleasant exchange that all parties had was unpleasant? Why did he go out of his way to make it seem like the View hosts were "acting like some sort of celebrity divas?" Why did he feel the need to ruthlessly mock Walters, adopting a mocking imitation, and portraying her as some sort of harridan? The two View hosts clearly believed that they had had a cordial conversation, and were obviously very taken aback at the way Beck described their conversation to his radio listeners. And when confronted on the View, Beck's first instinct -- the correct one -- was to apologize.

Beck needs to clear this matter up, because it sure makes him look like a lying sack of dog mess!

Glenn Beck may have gotten the story a bit off but I noticed that Ms. Walters never denied that the seat on Amtrack was reserved for her and Ms. Goldberg. Ms. Goldberg sort of denied it but didn't actually state, "those seats were not reserved for us." There are two sides here and once again, the two outspoken hosts of the View spoke over their guest to make sure they could be on the attack.

Maybe Ms. Walters "got her story a bit off"... if you are going to let one get away with details of the story, why not the others?

He himself said he "misspoke" which he stated was the "Nanci Pelosi way" which he implied was a euphemism for not telling the truth. He cast doubt on himself, so why are we picking at what the two ladies *aren't* saying as opposed to the man that, when faced with the other side of the story, could not say to their face "that did not happen" but sadly attempted to side step the issue, then play the aware victim (I knew this was going to happen), then 1/2 apologize for lying?

A snake is a snake is a snake.

They actually did say the seats weren't reserved, maybe you missed it because Beck was too busy interrupting.

I don't care but someone from Am Track would not allow him to sit because the seats
were being "held". They arrived later and sat so how did that happen? Or did Beck make up the ENTIRE story!! Or were Walters and Goldberg standing when this entire conversation happened. I turned it off after the "sack of dog mess" comment. Just wondering.

Glenn Beck reminds me of the old children's nursery rhyme...liar, liar pants on fire. GB was in the hot seat and the ladies held his feet to the fire. To funny.

I heard him admit to exaggerating the "truth." It's all Vaudeville, folks, they play for money. Is that who you want to hear on news programs? Not I - it's hard enough to learn the truth in America today - That all went out with Nixon - and followed right through to TODAY!

First, as far as who said hello to whom first ... WHO CARES? I mean really! If this is their biggest focus, then maybe they should then worry where they will get their nails done and if they have a run in their stockings pantyhose.

Now, as far as the claim that they seats were reserved, Beck said that an employee said they were reserved. Why not ALSO ask those who were with him? Did the workers tell them that the seats were reserved? Maybe just maybe the workers knew that Walters and Whoopi needed a seat and flagged those for them as a courtesy.

Lets face it, they are fairly well known ...

As far as Beck's claim on not checking facts - if he doesn't he is a dummy.
He should be checking facts. If everyone could hide behind the "commentator" label, we'd never get the truth ;-)

I don't think anyone cares who said hello first, seems the issue is that he mocked them on his radio show, using a fabricated story to do so.

That's exactly the issue and the fact that he lies for no reason about insignificant things. It's interesting that he says he's not an investigative reporter. He certainly presents his "comments" as news. People can of course believe whatever they want, but I don't get how the people that claim to be so Christian can get way with lying all of the time.

Flossophy is putting forth the old tired argument that the US is so different than any other country who has a successful government that we could never copy any other successful system. The truth is that there is nothing stopping the US from having a society very similiar to Sweden's except small minds like Flossophy and the media which is controlled and owned by the rich. The same rich who would lose much of their advantages over the poor if we adopted a system similiar to Swedens

All I can say is wow. The View is really holding Glenn's feet to the fire, aren't they? We should string up any person who can't get their story straight. In fact, my mom told my sister yesterday that I called her and asked her a question! What a liar! SHE's the one who called ME!!!! You should bring her on the view and confront her about that bold-faced lie.
Glenn impersonated Barbara Walters (who hasn't?) and dramatized a story for comedic effect (something the media does every single day, but for different purposes).
I'm with him, I am so sick and tired of party politics shaping how we treat one another. I'm tired of seeing people defend or attack other public officials because they have a "R" or a "D" behind their name. And I'm EXTREMELY sick and tired of the politicians who benefit from our gullibility to fall for all this.

your sick of it so you side with Glenn Beck. BRILLIANT, that's gonna stop the lies for sure! LOL!

but what does the girl in your photo have to say? (now, let her think for herself, you'd be doing her a service)

People, especially these days, need to be called on their lies. For too long people have been too nice and let the liars get away with it. THen, when they are called on it they lie about that.

You go ahead and side with the liars...good luck with that.

what are you talking about? you must not have watched the clip.

whoopie caught him RED HANDED lying and she called him on it, making stuff up about the inaugeral train ride. I don't care about the train ride, but I do care that he lies about my girls.

I'm glad she called him on the carpet, because she had him by the short and curlies.

I can't believe the trolls have skewed the view (pun intended) in here that maybe Beck didn't lie.

See? If they say it enough morons begin to believe it.

BassMent says:

“You seem to think that your assertion that liberals engage in "insane spending" negates the historical fact that the last three times that the size/cost of government expanded to such a degree that deficits were incurred were all under conservative Republican administrations (Reagan, BushI, Bush II)... under the "liberal" Clinton, the size/cost of government was reduced and deficits were flipped to surplus.”

Good point. It must be my imagination that the Obama administration is taking over more and more industries and has made more than $4 trillion in deficit spending. That’s not insane spending to you?

“This is why it's so pathetically simple for "us liberals" to shred your posts. You seem to believe that your pronouncement that "Obama is so laughably unqualified" makes it so. It does not.”

I didn’t say it made it so. What makes it so that he was a community organizer and he was in the senate for 2 years (part of which was running for president). That makes him unqualified.

“You're good at repeating (or at least typing) the Rushian talking points, but you lack the discipline to present cross-referenced facts, statistics, or historical analysis to back up your sloganeering.”

What facts and statistics have you presented?

Question:

what would he republicans do differently than Obama has done in the 4 months he has been at the helm?

Would they have let GM fail?
Would they let the Banks fail?

Would they not have invested in job creation? (u know.. the spending-stimulus)

What would a John McCain run country look like? What would the Republicans "DO" ?

I would eliminate lobbyists altogether, I'd put people in my cabinet that We The People chose, I'd have bailed the people out first & gave them more, & I'd keep my promises, & I'd be breaking up every monopoly I could as fast as I could. Especially Big Pharm & Banks.
That's be if I was really in control.

As a american indian we had to go by the govern rules such as health care, trust fund and the worst of all taken our children away from family and culture. So what, Obama wants to do with this country w/ socialize health care and controlling the banks. Enjoy it we have a change now. McCain still would have been better than this pres. Now the people voted for Obama will get what they want.

Yes, and how many jobs has that created so far? If a company is failing, they have a poor business model. This is not a very complicated concept. No amount of bail outs will save these businesses. They will fail again but now we'll have a nice $4 trillion (so far) bill to pay on top of it.

'That"s not insane spending to you? '

Not if it's what's necessary to keep us from getting to 25% unemployment and a significant percentage of our citizenry living on the streets, no. Unless you have a cost-free or cost-less solution, simply labeling the solution we're implementing as "insane spending" does not render it a bad solution. Again, YOU think $4 trillion is insane... most economists think it's insufficient, that we need to spend more.

'What makes it so that he was a community organizer and he was in the senate for 2 years (part of which was running for president). That makes him unqualified.'

Please reference ANY legal or historical document that states qualifications for president with an exclusionary clause for those of Obama's that you cite. Otherwise, more unsubstantiated opinion.

'What facts and statistics have you presented?'

See my response to your laughably uninformed post about communism, socialism, and the USSR.

Your post simply reinforces my observation about your lack of intellectual rigor. Don't fret though, it's endemic among conservatives posting here.

Oh, and BTW, you left out EIGHT YEARS of Obama's resume, during which time he was an Illinois state legislator. Further, he was elected to the US Senate in November of 2004, which means he served from 2005 through 2008 as a Senator.

I know, it's hard to retain facts or perform simple math when your head is so deliciously filled with unsupported opinions that you adore.

Wasn't there a quote fashioned by a rebellious Jew that said something to the effect of "if you are faithful in the small things, you will be faithful with the bigger things too" (my translation), and therefore you will be all the more respectable in what you endeavor? Good grief, yes--it IS important to define who met who and who introduced who to whom (excuse the grammar) by virtue of the fact that this is a matter of common truth telling. If you want to tell a fable, don't do it about people with whom you are going to have to face on national tv and expect anything less than what you got. Entertainment at everyone else's expense is always dangerous, especially with those whom you know you may touch a nerve on. Common sense was given to us by the God Mr. Beck claims to believe in, the whole shenanigan smacks of a ratings ploy by all of them--where is the common sense in that?
