VENTURA, Calif. — An intruder dressed in black and wearing a motorcycle helmet barged into a Southern California beach home and stabbed a pregnant woman and her husband to death as their two children were in other rooms, authorities said Thursday.

The two children were not injured in the attack late Tuesday. The 9-year-old boy ran to another part of the house after he first saw the intruder, and later found his parents' bodies. His 11-year-old sister was asleep in another room, authorities said.

Davina Husted, 42, was in the kitchen, the father, Brock Husted, 42, was in a bedroom and the boy was watching television when the intruder entered the expensive house in unincorporated Faria Beach through a sliding-glass door, sheriff's Capt. Ross Bonfiglio said.

The parents' bodies were found in the back of the one-story Ventura County home, he said. Sheriff's Capt. Bruce Norris said Davina Husted was four to five months pregnant. No arrests have been made.

"There's no answers as to why this happened," said Scott Husted, Brock's brother. "It's a horrible situation and there's a killer out there that killed a man and his wife _ his pregnant wife _ with two small children in the home."

Investigators believe the killer was not known to the family, Bonfiglio said. A beach camping area is located just west of the home.

Authorities believe the killer saw Davina Husted first and attacked her. They initially thought the boy saw the attack, but sheriff's Sgt. Dave Murray later said the child ran into another room and didn't witness the killings, but did find the bodies.

The boy and his older sister then ran out of the house and told a neighbor about the attack, Murray said. It wasn't immediately known if anything had been stolen from the house.

Family friend Robyn Asdel said Brock Husted, who owned a wrought-iron business, was a family man, while his wife was involved in her children's school activities and was excited about the coming birth of their baby.

"She was a great role model to her children and all of our kids," Asdel said. "They will both be missed."

The well-manicured beach-front home sits along a narrow stretch of U.S. Highway 101 about 80 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

I agree something isn't right here. At 10:30 at night a family in an expansive home did not lock their doors? Nothing taken but two people killed? Interesting to see how this plays out.

Something about this story isn't right. I do think it was a hit but why a stabbing and they didn't check the other rooms with the kids. I hope they catch whoever left those kids parentless.

Clearly this was a hit gone wrong.

The husband paid to have the preganant wife hit. He insisted that the hit man use a knife ratehr than a gun, perhaps even paid extra. All part of a sick plan.

The husband decided to make the "hit by a strange man" more credible he was going to SURPRISE the hit man, and kill him, after he killed his wife. With a gun.

When the hit man arrived and the husband was home he (the hit man) knew he was in trouble, or surmised the plan. He got the upper hand and killed the husband first, and took his gun away.

The key to solving this crime is to find the gun that the husband purchased a year or so back.

Do you think a hitman would use a knife? That sounds a little strange.

Murders are committed primarily based on money, sex, hate, fear, jealousy or insults:
Since nothing was stolen, It leaves no doubt it was a professional Hitman. And no gun used tells us the killer was a powerful man like OJ Simpson who could physically overpower his victims; his knowledge of the house does not indicate the he was familiar with the family, anyone who hires the Hitman could give him enough information of the house design.

I would have the pregnant victims fetus' DNA established to assert if the fetus was genetically similar to the husband's and if not, begin examining family and fiends' DNAs who would have been guests at the huse, including the mailman and the real estate salesman who sold them the house.

A pregnant woman killed could lead to a business associate, a neighbor or friend of the family. There are many reasons why a paramour would not want to be involved in a love-child situation.

The murderer was no vagrant, he was definitely a paid professional Hitman. We all have friends or relatives that would wish us dead, it is just a matter of how far they would go to carry out the hatred.

I would look for fresh tire tracks in the vicinity of the house; a murder needs quit transportation in and away from the crime.

what about the neighbors? the people who own the Patagonia outdoor clothing chain?

they said they heard someone in their own house right around the time....someone banging doors and furniture....they thought it was their house guest but the guest did not arrive until 4am....if it was a hit, would the killer have gone to someone else's house first?

or did they get the wrong address?

If the guy killed the wife first didnt she scream? Was there a struggle between the killer and the husband? Its not easy to kill someone with a knife if they are defending themselves.{ive heard}Whoever benifited from these deaths has to be the main suspect. Its hard to believe this was random.

My guess is SOMEONE didn't want to pay the hitman the remaining 50% leaving him the choice of a two-for-one or hiring a collection agency.

Vicious murders like this would be SO MUCH EASIER to solve if they'd air the corresponding "Law and Order" or "CSI" episode BEFORE the actual murder. Police would know exactly what clues to look, for, whose DNA to test, what color vehicle was involved, and so on.

I guess you didn't read the article. The couple was stabbed to death. Maybe if they had a gun they could have survived.
In Canada they have a law that requires a wife to sign off on the purchase if the husband wants to buy a gun (rifles only, no hand guns in Canada). Apparently, the law was an attempt to reduce domestic gun violence. After it was passed, I asked my Canadian friends how it was working out. Their response? "Well, it has reduced the number of wife shootings a bit. However, the number of wife stabbings is way up".

Have to agree with Dwight5 on this one, They might have lived had they owned a gun. Criminals will get guns whether they are legal or not. And guns don't cause violence, people do. If violent people don't have a gun, they'll find something else.

This is foul. A 5-month pregnant woman? What happened to hitmen like "The Professional"? (no women, no children). Good thing the kids weren't around to really witness this.

Well a couple things come to mind. The person who committed this crime, knew the couple and knew the way around the house. Clearly, imo, premeditated, they knew the wife was pregnant...and knew where to find the husband. Like others have said, I think it may have been a former employee or a jaded lover. Maybe, the child she was carrying was his??? a stretch but who knows...

While there is no "1000% proof" security systems. Improving the security system of any house can help fend of attackers.

1) Keep lights around houses well lit,
2) Secure all entries and exit ways of the house
3) Especially for people who live in expensive homes or have valuables, you need a video camera system, if something happens it is easier to identify who did it.

4) Live in a tank?

This obsession for so called "security" is really embarrassing, to say the least.

More often than not (just read statistics) ki.llings and vi.olent acts are perpetrated by members of the family or close relatives. There is no way to prevent these kind of ag.gressions but to LIVE a HONEST LIFE and RESPECT PEOPLE and TREAT them as HUMAN BEINGS.. than of course something wrong is always likely to happen.. but that's simply another question: is life like or not.

PS
Or even better than a tank, why not a cof.fin with a proper alarm system installed?!?

Ever hear of home invasions? Nice, honest, respectable people fall victim to them all the time.

Google The Carr Brothers and you'll see what I mean.

From the article, it sounded like the door was unlocked. So much for security systems.

And people in congress are afraid to let the people from that camp in the Caribbean come to our prisons. How can that make sense when this goes on?

No, people in congress are trying to stir up fear. Only idi0ts are afraid of terrist criminals in super-max prisons.

they get locked up in max prisons. If German Army personnel could be imprisoned in the US during WW2, I see no problem.

"Thompson, 59, and his 41-year-old wife, Trudy, were gunned down outside their home in the hillside San Gabriel Valley community of Bradbury as they left for work early in the morning of March 16, 1988. The killers rode bicycles and escaped. "

For some reason the Mickey Thompson murders come to my mind in relation to this sad event.

When I heard about these murders, I immediately thought of Mickey and Trudy Thompson too.

For what it's worth. I'm from the area. 20 years ago there were 4 random murders of couples (3 in Santa Barbara, one in the hills of Ventura) - most of them, though were unmarried couples. Never solved. Just a few months ago, in a local Ventura Co. newspaper, they ran an article about these "couple" murders that were unsolved. Even said the murderer would either be dead, in jail, or too old. Wonder if that person read the article and decided "it was time" for another.

The local newspaper said this morning that the husband was always "doing stuff to tell a story" i.e. exciting, risky, extreme sport-type of things - made him sound a little cocky and a bragger, maybe?

Don't know....it's still sad and scary.

I agree, I don't like labeling "campers" as low-life. In fact, when you drive the highway 101, you see many, many campers that look pretty new.....looks like old timers having a great time at the beach in their gigantic RV's.

Be safe

the last time we drove to Montecito, we stopped along the coast to stretch our legs....must have been somewhere in the greater Ventura area....

besides 'legitimate' campers (which are kind of iconic along the California coast), there did seem to be some really scruffy looking vagrants at one of the rest stops....
