NEW YORK — Michael Moore's documentary about the economic crisis will hit theaters on Oct. 2.

The announcement was made Thursday by Overture Films and Paramount Vantage.

The film is not yet titled. Moore earlier planned to make it more broadly about America as an empire. Instead, the documentary explores the causes of the global economic meltdown. Moore has called it "the biggest swindle in American history."

The division between rich and poor is old territory for Moore, who broke through 20 years ago with "Roger & Me" _ about General Motors closing a plant in his hometown of Flint.

Moore won the Academy Award for best documentary in 2003 for "Bowling for Columbine."

Maybe entitle it: "The Golden Rule--Those Who Have the Gold Make the Rules." Of course the funny thing now is it's the taxpayer's gold the banks now have and yet the bankers are still making the rules.

Hey, Rush, don't think Moore is against having money, just getting it through criminal, immoral means and being enabled to do so by the people we've elected to office. Problem?

first, some were aware of this international economic collapse by june of 2007. this is yesterday's news but a lot of people still don't get it. yes michael will try to concentrate on the u.s. and like farenheit 911 it will be watered down . many other documentaries that followed his 911 were more direct and shocking, or revealing. i expect that to be true of this documentary. in short- the whole world has been bankrupted by the super rich. the same names ,the same families, similar to the 1930's-- no none has the power to change anything... let alone get out of iraq. these people are sick-- and they will produce in this country third world status- because they are insecure with progress.

Good for Moore. At least somebody has the will and courage to go after these crooks.

Why is the work of Michael Moore presented under entertainment here? It seems somewhat out of place to read about him next to the frivolities of publicity-seeking "singers" and spoiled Hollywood jokers.

MM is brilliant, no doubt, at making commercially viable documentary films. Have his films had any perceivable effect on legislation or discourse? Very little, I say. "Roger and me" was cute but did little to reverse the crash and burn direction of GM and the export of jobs from the rust belt. "Fahrenheit 911" was great but did not prevent GWB from getting re-elected to "spend his political capital" on us poor saps. Bowling for Columbine? As many if not more guns out there, and being smuggled into Mexico, as ever. "Sicko"? More uninsured Americans now than ever....and health insurance costs have increased 200% since the film came out. This new epic will make MM even richer and bankers richer still.

plus ca change....

You certainly cannot blame American pigheadedness on Michael Moore. At least he's TRYING, which is something you can't say about too many people...

Most documentarians do not get rich doing what they do. MM is an exception. But he certainly earned it, not like the greedy GM executives and insurance companies he had profiled in his docus. If you don't want to contribute to his wealth as you perceive it, then don't see this new docu.

GWB was not re-elected. We must always remember that. The vote count was stopped, and he was illegally "appointed."

"Fahrenheit 9/11" massively increased the awareness of Americans, without which the Republicans would probably still be in power.

MM worked tirelessly during the 2004 election cycle, trying to get Bush Inc out of office. His efforts, along with many other people's, made a huge difference (as we know, Jeb and the Supreme Court decided that one) and by 2006, things swung the other way in the Congressional elections. For the 2008 election cycle he gave away for free the resulting documentary from the 2004 elections, Slacker Nation. I think it did make a difference, with a little help from Bush Inc's self-serving policies.

Actually, Jeb and the Supreme Court decided election 2000. Election 2004 was simply stolen in Ohio.
