NEW YORK — Michael Moore's documentary about the economic crisis will hit theaters on Oct. 2.

The announcement was made Thursday by Overture Films and Paramount Vantage.

The film is not yet titled. Moore earlier planned to make it more broadly about America as an empire. Instead, the documentary explores the causes of the global economic meltdown. Moore has called it "the biggest swindle in American history."

The division between rich and poor is old territory for Moore, who broke through 20 years ago with "Roger & Me" _ about General Motors closing a plant in his hometown of Flint.

Moore won the Academy Award for best documentary in 2003 for "Bowling for Columbine."

Will be interesting to see if he implicates the Fed in this. After all, they are the root cause of it.

Keep on keepin' on Michael, make 'em squirm. We need more like him, those that won't pussyfoot and dance around the issue. Tell us straight up what's going on, and who's responsible.

I am not a huge Moore fan. He consistently sets up a very good point and then does something reactionary and childish that pretty much negates the whole premise. He helped completely whitewash 9-11.

However, I truly believe this could and should be not only his best film to date, but his least polarizing as well.

But in order to get the truth out to people besides his demographic, he's got to find a way to bring conservatives into his fray, something that most are adamantly against. That could be challenging.

I can't wait to see this. The banks have really profited from the bailout. They get taxpayer money practically interest free, continue to seize taxpayer assets in foreclosure, and have yet to be held accountable for tanking the economy. People are not paying their mortgages because they don't have jobs. How bad could things really be at the banks with their million dollar salaries, bonuses and frivolous expenditures.

I really, REALLY wish we could get Moore to work his magic on marijuana prohibition. Nobody exposes injustice like Micheal Moore and he could REALLY get America talking if we could just get him to take up the cause.

Not only is Moore "not a bad" documentary filmmaker, but he is brilliant.

Farenheit 911 won the top prize at Cannes and was the first documentary to win it since 1956. The chair of the judging panel was Quentin Tarantino and, although, it's easy to speculate that the film won due to its politics, he stated that "it was the best film" that year.

Totally. No doubt politics had a lot to do with it winning but the documentary is excellent. I find the three minutes specially haunting. If only the Kerry '04 campaign had had the guts this movie had in calling out Bush.

I only hope this new film is more entertaining than Sicko; which was not as good as it should have been and considering how important the topic was, it's a shame it wasn't as popular as his other films.

Moore should stick to fiction. He is too politically motivated it becomes a political commercial. Ken Burns is a serious documentarian.

I remember going to see "911" and finding it very disturbing, in fact I can say it was the only movie I ever saw where afterwards a bunch of us complete strangers having dialogue after it. I admire the way Michael Moore interviews real people to get at the truth of things, it's probably why he is so hated by politicians, they don't want us to know too much.

Moore is a great documentary-style moviemaker, in my book. He doesn't present his work in dry, high-flown terms as he interviews the perpetrators of his investigation, always courteous but probing, and also presents the ordinary people who are affected by them in terms of policies and the way capitalism works, giving his films a more humane outlook. After all, it's people who are responsible for all the failures in our society, as well as those affected by them. Can hardly wait until Oct.

It's disgusting to me that our Democratic reps distance themselves from Moore. Most of them owe their well-padded majority seats to his public influence. This speaks louder than anything to me of their commitment to the oligarchy as opposed to their true interest in public well-being. Karma is real and it's coming, Blue Dogs.

Hey freelyb! I just gotta remind you that Michael Moore (who I am a fan of) gave Ralph Nader the cold shoulder when he ran for president in the last election. Mr. Moore had been a big supporter of Naders in 2000 but gave way to the myth that Nader stole votes from Gore. Michael Moore is just as sensitive to public oppinion as our elected Democratic representatives. I'm a huge fan of Ralph Naders ( I voted for him) and will not forget the snubs he received from Mr. Moore during the last campaign. I do plan on seeing the documentary when it comes out in the fall. I like Michael Moore a lot and will always remember fondly the rabbit lady in "Roger and Me".

I don't know why people don't believe what Moore puts in his documentaries. In Sicko he made references to the Canadian health care system. What was in the film is correct and right on.

I have listened to Corporate America lying about Canadian Health Care and even the first Bush stating how Canadians hate their health care system. If you find one against it you can find 5 million who love it and that is a fact.

From what I can tell about his expose on 9/11 and what ensued it seems to me all has come to pass and is now history to those who can accept fact over fiction.

I volunteer at the tourist center in Portland, Oregon. I get an opportunity to talk to tourists from Canada, England, the Netherlands, etc. This is my second year doing this. And to date have not talked to one person who is dissatisfied with their health care or the taxes they pay. To the contrary, these visitors invariably cannot understand the rationale for our expensive and ineffective system. By the way, I have family who live in England. Most recently my niece, who is underemployed, had to have back surgery. She received excellent medical care and in a very timely manner. She is well and not in debt. Contrast that to what someone in her position would experience here in the good ole US of A.

Most of the people (mostly from the US) that claim Canadians and Europeans are dissatisfied with their health care and that it takes years to get any proper treatment seem to forget the fact that these countries have equal, if not higher, life expectancies as the US. So obviously, they are treating the patients just fine and in a timely manner.

That scene in Sicko in which Bush the elder just out and out lies about the Canadian medicare often goes through my mind, particularly the hatred on his face as he does it. Canadians regulary rate Tommy Douglas, the man who gave them their health care system, as the greatest Canadian - right up there at the top, even above Don Cherry!

Most of the horror stories about the Canadian and European health care systems that I've heard have the hallmarks of the urban legend. First, you'll notice that none of them are ever related as firsthand observations. It's always a friend of a guy at work, or something I heard on the radio. If someone does claim firsthand knowledge of something like a waiting line for heart surgery that results in death, for example, I've found that on further pressing, the teller (if they have a shred of honesty) almost always reveals that it wasn't their friend or workmate, but someone that person knew. Second, so many of these stories sound uncannily similar. A great example of this is one I heard at least three separate times, always told the same way. The teller relates that they know someone at their company who lives in Canada, but commutes over the border to work in the US (quite common). This person (and sometimes others in their situation) is in the process of renouncing their Canadian health card in favor of adopting that company's insurance plan. Usually the location, identity of the company, names of people involved are vague. And again, when the teller is pressed to say how sure they are of the story, it always turns out not to be their company, but that of a friend or acquaintance, or a company that their company works with.

I've been hoping for that for a long time: that a documentary will be done about overpopulation. It is a simple concept, really: too many people consuming too many resources = climate change, droughts, famine, disease, etc. I used to volunteer for Population Connection (formerly ZPG) and I was always amazed at people's resistance to acknowledge this simple concept. "The earth has plenty of resources, its just a matter of how they're distributed." Oh, sure - tell that to the people of Africa.
The thing is: no one wants to feel guilty for starting a family. How do you get around that?

ZPG is the only thing that will save the planet at this point and one I promote. Only reactionaries and those bound up by religious preferences tend to have large families these days. Having one or two children should be the choice, not 6, 8, 18. If people love children that much, let them adopt some. Otherwise, it's an exercise in ego. Birth control should be taught early and often. People need to be responsible for their own sexual habits if we're to survive as a species.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:43 AM on 05/22/2009

That's the root of all of our problems. If you trace any of the world's problems to it's source, you will find that the overpopulation of one particular species is that source. The only thing I can think of that isn't related to population would be a doomsday asteroid with Earth's name on it.

Your intelligence is astounding. First there is only ONE movie about 9-11 that he made. Let me remind you of the other movie's and what they are about because all of you anti moore morons only concentrate on Fahrenheit 9-11 even though you never saw it. He made Roger and Me which is about GM. The Big One is about corporations and a living wage. Canadian Bacon is a comedy that stars John Candy about what if Canada invaded us. Bowling for Columbine is about violence levels in America mostly on gun violence. Fahrenheit 9-11 the only movie you know anything about, was about Bush and Co. Sicko is about Health care. 5 movies and only one about Bush. Get it through your head.

I just told you that the war on terror is based on a lie. And you responded with a movie review?

I just told you that the Patriot Act, wiretapping, pre-emptive invasions, torture, millions killed, trillions spent, effecting billions of people for generations to come.....was based on the assumption that there were planes filled with people on 911. There were no commercial planes on 911. It was all a lie. I'm very happy for Mr. Moore's film credits. I've enjoyed them. There were no commercial planes on 911. It is going to take time to understand just how many have lied for so long.
