Michael Moore's Financial Collapse Documentary Gets Release Date

NEW YORK — Michael Moore's documentary about the economic crisis will hit theaters on Oct. 2.

The announcement was made Thursday by Overture Films and Paramount Vantage.

The film is not yet titled. Moore earlier planned to make it more broadly about America as an empire. Instead, the documentary explores the causes of the global economic meltdown. Moore has called it "the biggest swindle in American history."

The division between rich and poor is old territory for Moore, who broke through 20 years ago with "Roger & Me" _ about General Motors closing a plant in his hometown of Flint.

Moore won the Academy Award for best documentary in 2003 for "Bowling for Columbine."

The very sad fact is that people who don't buy into what Moore is showing them either (a) haven't seen the film (duh!), (b) have been conditioned to have the "man" do their thinking for them or (c) are the very ones he's targeting.

Other than going to work (if you have that luxury), hanging out with friends and family (again, if you're lucky) and doing life's "ordinary" things, the 1%ers have us by the gonads and continue to squeeze. F-em.

Yes! No matter what some say, Mike Moore kicks butt. I'll never forget his speech at the Academy Awards. He was the only celebrity standing up to Bush at the height of his power. I think the best thing a documentary filmmaker can do is "move the needle" of public opinion with new information in a story well told. Michael Moore has done this quite well and in important ways.

Another filmmaker worth his salt is Eugene Jarecki. Very different style, but compelling.
