NPR:

It is clear that increasingly abusive interrogation techniques were used on Abu Zubaydah, the first high-value detainee, in the months between his capture and the first Justice Department memo authorizing harsh interrogations. But the legal guidance that authorized those early interrogations remains shrouded in secrecy.

"Torture."
"Lies."
"Mass murder."
"Occupation."
"Subjugation."
"Domestic spying."
"Secret police."
"Death squad."
There are a number of terms reporters should start using to more accurately describe what happened during the Bush administration.

In the face of mounting public pressure to expose the truth about torture and how this country was manipulated into an unnecessary war, the ability of republicans to willfully suspend reality is impressive, if not frightening. Even though Newt continues to call for Pelosi to resign, republican cronies refuse to revisit the facts surrounding Newt’s adulterous affair with one of his staffers while he was simultaneously pushing for the impeachment of Clinton for the same thing. Clinton survived, but Newt was forced in disgrace to resign as Speaker of the House.

What a shame he was off to such a great start at keeping his campaign promises and now as if the DICK has hypnotised President Obama he has become too insync with the corrupt evil bush admin. Case in point ....He has done nothing to stop the DADT, opposses the truth commission, has not allowed the single payer to be on the table and has continued the tribunals., I have a feeling Obama will be another Carter one term president.

Keep on talking Dick, and Liz. The truth may accidentally fall out of your mouth.
I really think you're starting to reveal some important issues, just keep on talking.

Does it even matter when the flawed logic was first employed? They tortured (before/during/after) they said: "we don't torture."

Watch the Repugs tie themselves in knots over this one. The CIA told the truth about Pelosi knowing about Waterboarding, but the CIA was mistaken about the Harsh Interrogation tactics used before the legal justifications.

"Torture." What they authorized was "torture."
Unfortunately for them, torture cannot be "authorized."

Investigation or not, history books will record the BUSH legacy as one of the worst in history and the topic of "torture" will certainly be found in the books!!!

Bush can add one or two of these books to his library.

Why do we continue to see these stories when the president made it clear thta we must move on and forget all this second guessing and finger pointing. We really don't need to spend our time trying to figure out what happened when. All that is important is that we are no longer torturing.

For your (hoped for) enlightenment: A basic principle of the American Constitution, government, social order, and legal system is that no person is above, or entitled to operate outside the boundaries set by the law. The flaw in the "Let's just move on." argument is best illustrated by analogy: Should there be an investigation, indictment and prosecution of the perpetrator(s) of armed robbery? Or should the victims and society simply acknowledge that the robbery, and the robber(s) was wrong, and move on to other things? Should there be an investigation, indictment and prosecution of the perpetrator(s) of murder? Or should the family of the victim and society simply acknowledge the pain of the bereaved and that the act was heinous, and move on to other things? Crimes not investigated, acknowledged, or prosecuted lead not to eventual resolution and reconciliation, but rather to further crimes and outrages perpetrated by those emboldened by the lack of consequences visited on their predecessors, or those who mistake the lack of consequences for endorsement. In either case, society devolves to an anarchic jungle mentality and brutishness, where all are at risk of victimization, and there is no hope of maintaining a civil society. Under such conditions, that "we are no longer torturing" becomes a tenuous and surely temporary circumstance.

The Rule of Law is IMPORTANT, if these law breakers and torturers are not made to answer for their raping of the US Constitution, and International Law, and Domestic laws against torture then it will be much easier for the next administration to break laws, and continue to torture.
