For the past few years, the emerging BRIC markets--i.e., Brazil, Russia, India, and China--have been grabbing all the attention. But suddenly the pendulum has swung back to France, by which, of course, we mostly mean Paris. Right now the denizens of the City of Light are producing the most exciting collections, throwing the coolest parties, and generally having the most fun. And yes, last we checked, they still have a lock on the je ne sais quoi thing.

Oh, who gives a $h!t??? My apartment is decorated in Early Goodwill, which is all I can afford... and all many people can afford. I'm so sick of these aspirations to emulate the wealthy. What's wrong with the honest peasantry?

Please no more french kitchens in modern styled homes and no more FAUX french country McMansions.
Even those don't look like the real ones in France.

More homes like Villa Savoie.

My mother had her house decorated in faux 'Early American' when we were growing up. Tacky. Seems like people would have learned. The faux Tuscan and faux French Country trend has got to be at its end - I hope. Most of those people who decorated their house that way have never seen these areas they thinking they're actually emulating. If I see another McMansion with a french country kitchen loaded with roosters and Hummers in the 3-car garage - I'm going to gag.

Whoa, hit me with that witty stick. Did you know there are no french fries in France?

yes, there are 'frites' in France. Steak frites are a staple in restaurants in my beloved France.

I believe that is is "Les Etats-Unis" as Etats is plural (States United in translation). I believe also that "ils" is plural (being the third person plural pronoun, i.e., they) so it does not conjugate with "ai" (which is the first person singular conjugation of avoir-to have).

So I think you meant,

"Les Etats-Uniz, ils n'ont pas de commentaire?!?"

Or, "The United States, they do not have any comment?!?"

Never claimed my French was any good! In fact worryingly, my most competent French involves food, which is a fair indication of how I spend my time when I'm there. It's not good when you struggle to remember the word for 'door', or 'yesterday', but are perfectly sure of the word for 'oyster'...Just goes to show that motivation is everything in language learning!
