Clay Aiken: Adam Lambert Singing "Awful" And "Frightening"

NEW YORK — Clay Aiken is no fan of Adam Lambert.

The "American Idol" also-ran has blasted this season's runner-up on his Web site, mocking Lambert's rendition of "Ring of Fire" as "contrived," "awful" and "slightly frightening."

According to Aiken, he tunes into the show about once a season _ and this year, he caught Lambert's take on Johnny Cash and thought his ears would bleed.

But wait _ there's more. Aiken aims his vitriol on "Idol" itself. He thinks the series showed bias for Lambert over eventual champ Kris Allen and has focused on "slick productions and polished contestants" rather than raw talent.

Aiken lost out to Ruben Studdard in 2003. He's since released several albums, appeared on Broadway and publicly confirmed he's gay.

Did Clay leave himself open to this criticism.­..after all charity begins at home. It is kind of unseemly for him to bash someone getting his big break on American Idol. I guess Clay doesn't have any empathy for Adam?

Where did he say he wanted to destroy Adam?! His fans had been asking at his site for weeks to give his opinion of Adam & the show. He wanted to wait till the show was over so as not to influence his fans against Adam. I think that's pretty damn comendable. He was only talking about ONE performance, universally acknowledged as Adam's worst performance. Why is it OK for EVERYONE to bash him for SIX YEARS, but he dares to say he doesn't like one performance of someone & suddenly he's the devil? (Adam's fans are vowing to destroy any future projects of his, just so you know.)

1. AI pimped the most talented contestant.
2. You stated Adam wouldn't be on AI if he didn't have immense talent. Puh-leeeeze, girlfriend. Megan Joy et al, much? lol

I just think way to much has been made of this by the media.

Because Clay Aiken has demonstrated such enormous talent, first on AI and consistently over the years, I have followed his career. And the pattern that has emerged with the media over the last six years regarding Mr. Aiken is they do not hesitate to bash this young man any chance they get.

I have not seen one other AI winner, runners up or contestant who has been vilified in the media as much as Clay Aiken, and yet he is one of the most talented ever to grace the AI stage.

Not to mention his outstanding philanthropic works over the past six years, which barely ever get a mention.

I find that sad.

I do not know the man's work. I do not have his records, I do not watch him on tv. But, if he is as wonderful as you claim, why would he dis someone who is just trying to get started in the same way he did?
And, yes he has been talked about very badly. And, the things said about him were needless and mean. Too bad his experience did not teach him to be nice to others following his path.

Sounds like someone is a little defensive about being "out-gay'ed". The sad part about this situation is that Lambert was the most competitive of the bunch, yet was openly gay, so stirs controversy. He definitely didn't get any Red State votes. If you are a person that can get church congregations to trivialize over you and pray for you to lose because of who you are openly and honestly, you have more influence than you know. Now Aiken the total opposite, hid the fact he was gay, then came out of the closet much later... is that right or am I mistaking him for one of the Backstreet Boys?
