The company I work for sent out an email explaining that if Obama won the election, layoffs would happen to offset taxes. So far we have only lost 3-4k jobs, but more will be gone soon enough.

The government KNOWS that the bondholders are LEGALLY ENTITLED to GM's assets in bankruptcy court. They know that the UAW is NOT entitled to those assets, and that the court will rule against them.
Now they're openly admitting that they are purposefully manipulating the bankruptcy courts in order to divert bondholder's rightful money into the union coffers.

This is a perfect example of why we should have been saving through the more prosperous times. The only time we should be deficit spending is when there is some overriding emergency. There wasn't any excuse for Bush's extravagant spending, not to mention the drastic cuts in revenue that he gave to his "base".

You don't have to tell me, we got our notice two weeks ago, come June 30, our jobs in our office will be outsourced! Seven of us are looking. Im in my sixties, I'm already finding it difficult to even get an interview, even though I have nearly thirty years in healthcare management! I guess they don't feel they should waste time on someone they think will be retiring soon. What they don't realize is the way this country has been gutted financially by the GOP, thanks GEORGE, half of my Retirement is gone and after paying into social security for over forty five years, it's probably not going to be there either.

The "unemployment rate" has been artificially depressed since the Reagan years, therefore any valid comparison with the past is meaningless. Excluded are people working a part time starvation wage job who seek full time. People who want to work but cannot because of disability. People whose unemployment benefits have expired. People who have just given up. Criminals and loafers.
Many guesses and hypotheticals are used to create theoretical jobs that add to those supposedly employed.

We now at 18.5% (EIGHTEEN AND A HALF PERCENT) REAL UNEMPLOYMENT.
One of the numbers never counted is the young people who haven't found a job at all. Another is the number of women whose families' need them working, but who've been pushed into staying at home, because they can't pay for childcare, or medical for the kids. It doesn't count the underemployed, working at Walmart or a fast food place and applying for food stamps and medicaid, to get the additional food and healthcare for their children that their jobs can't pay for.

This should come as no surprise. For years, the unemployment rate in the United States has only reflected those who have filed in the last 6 months, so that Administration could falsely boast of the "strength" of the economy. Europe's numbers have always been more accurate, reflecting everyone who is actually unemployed. Under the America model of unemployment monitoring, if everyone gets fired and is out of work for more than 6 months, the government can boast a 0% unemployment rate. It sounds absurd, but it's demonstrates the games politicians play with statistics.
