Well, I always admired Colin Powell, but he lost me today when he said he knew about "enhanced interrogation techniques" but thought they were "legal." Then, a few lines later, he said that waterboarding was used on our men in SERE to teach them how to resist TORTURE!! i am so disappointed in him -- just another Republican talking out of both sides of his mouth.

I hope Nancy Pelosi recorded Powell's interview. --- He was the Sec of State and apparently got dodgy information in high level meetings about torture that she got in 'd ic k chaingangy'- vetted briefings.

Powell is one republican that has class.

He wanted to in 1996, but was basically told he was too moderate for the GOP.

Thank you Gen/Sec Powell. You are the voice of reason from the Republican Party. The country needs more voices like yours. This opinion from a Democrat!!

Powell wants to be able to endorse Obama during the election, which he did, and then still be able to have a seat at the republican table to discuss which way the party should go. He should ask Joe Lieberman how that's working out for him.

Powell is not an elected official. He is voicing an opinion of the many of the 'republicans' who are disenchanted with the vinegar-y left-overs that are running your failed party.

If the President and his party (Democrats) are failed how come they won the last election by a landslide. I'm sure millions of citizens will be glad to argue the point with you.

What I find most reprehensible in this situation is that the GOP is so willing to throw a vastly popular military figure like Powell under the bus which such vigor.

Career politicians will slam hm to protect THEIR careers, talk show hosts will slam him to increase THEIR ratings, the rest seem ready to condemn him, not for the orders he followed in good faith from his Commander In Chief, but for not disobeying those orders.

When Cheney slammed Powell, he did it to a man of honor and intellect. Cheney has neither and by this afternoon, that will be more apparent.

Any good betting man knows a winning hand when he sees one. Powell will be winning this argument...and I'll go all in on it.

Absolutely, who would ever want to be affiliated with a party that would disown you so quickly/willingly?

The Republican Party has been overtaken by right-wing Christian fundamentalists. They do not want moderation in their midst.

Until the Republican Party understands that religious dogma has no place on a political platform, it will not rise again from the ashes.

There is nothing wrong with fiscal conservatism; there is everything wrong with religious fundamentalism.

I wish Colin Powell would just toss them aside and join Obama. Afterall Obama is a centrist. That has been over shadowed by the Keynesian response to the bank crisis and economic recession -- the same response that the conservatives would have adopted, had they been in power.

Gen. Powell is one of a very few honorable republicans right now ! That is not to say republicans have always been dishonorable, just the last 9 years. I look forward to hearing what the Gen. has to say.

please - go and research Reagan during the beginning of the HIV virus. He was completely silent and offered no leadership - allowing contaminated blood to kill off young hemophiliacs and others. He didn't even mention it until Rock Hudson died of the virus.

I don't think lying before the UN to get us involved in an illegal war is honorable. That's just me, I think he should stand trial for war crimes just like Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld. I don't want to hear a word he has to say, it's all about spinning and trying to save his reputation, he is not an honorable man.

for all of you that don't know history:

Powell testified in front of congress with the head of the CIA on his left and rumsfeld on his right. he said that would be the only way he would testify because he had doubts about these so-called wmd's. if you have the head of CIA and the SEC DEF with you, why would you honestly not believe what they were saying? it's only natural that he would agree with the administration (who was stabbing him in the back). also we know that cheney's office rewrote the speech he was about to give the morning he testified.

I think that Colin Powell is suffering fro a bad case of cognitive dissonance. He wanted a "moderate" candidate for the GOP. He got one in John McCain and then he did not vote for him. Rush Limbaugh vociferously opposed McCain as candidate but in the end loyally voted for him anyway. Cognitive dissonance is the right explanation. We will now have to listen to Powell's endless attempts at self-justification.

look at McCain's voting record - he is far from the moderate that folks tried to portray him as.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:28 AM on 05/24/2009

John McCain was a moderate before the election began, but by election day he was screaming for more deregulation and had selected a snake-handler for his VP.
