Brooke Shields: I Lost My Virginity At 22

Buried in a Q&A with Health magazine, Brooke Shields let slip how old she was when she lost her virginity - 22 - and her regrets over it.
Q: What's your biggest health regret?

A: Not learning to love the way I looked earlier. And I think I would have had sex a lot earlier! [Laughs.] I think I would have lost my virginity earlier than I did at 22. I had the public and all this pressure, and I wish I had just gotten it over with in the beginning when it was sort of OK. I think I would have been much more in touch with myself. I think I wouldn't have had issues with weight--I carried this protective 20 pounds [in college]. It was all connected. And to me, that's a health regret.

Shields is twice married with two young daughters.

Brooke, who was a lingerie model at the age of 14, waited until 22 to do the nasty? That's what I find most surprising, knowing about her past. ;o)

There seem to be a number of people who are quizzically shaking their heads asking,"Why should anyone care about this?", but for those Gen X'ers who grew up more or less at the same time she did, this is somewhat interesting. Thanks to the shrewd Machiavellianism of her mother, Brooke was pushed into the public spotlight in roles that required her to embody a sort of adolescent sexual abandon in an age that was highly sexualized. It even appears in her famous Calvin Klein ad from '79. Her two most notorious films, Pretty Baby and Blue Lagoon, both depicted Brooke in poetic deflowerings. So it's interesting that this girl who was forced to embody teen lust ended up losing her virginity much later than anyone would have suspected. I'll leave it to others to decide if her mother should be reprimanded for pimping her out at such a tender age.

Also, it's interesting that, now that she is middle-aged, her attitude towards sex is virtually no different than Ellen Burstyn's advice to Cybil Shepherd in The Last Picture Show: go ahead and get it over with and you'll see it's not that big a deal.

Shrewd indeed. Her mother was a hatcheck girl who jumped Frank Shield among the mink coats at Doubles in nyc. He did the honorable thing and married her and provided for Brooke, but her mom was determined to exploit her, from ivory snow, to breck shampoo to nude scenes before she hit double digits....Brooke is lucky she's not a f'd up as MJ or Britney

This could easily be related to my Huffington Post Comment of several days ago regarding Madonna's ex, Sean Penn, wherein I described standing next to Brooke Shields while she was having a conversation with the Material "Like A Virgin" Girl. And so I shall only express my hope that Brooke Shields isn't blaming me for her delayed loss of virginity. As many are aware, I am a celibut monk hermit wannabe.

Didn't she used to be some kind of virginity PR promoter? I remember back when she was in her teens she was apparently very proud of and public about her virginity. Similar to Britney Spears, who used to be another poster girl for virginity-­until-marr­iage. And we all know how well that turned out :D:D
