Brooke Shields: I Lost My Virginity At 22

Buried in a Q&A with Health magazine, Brooke Shields let slip how old she was when she lost her virginity - 22 - and her regrets over it.
Q: What's your biggest health regret?

A: Not learning to love the way I looked earlier. And I think I would have had sex a lot earlier! [Laughs.] I think I would have lost my virginity earlier than I did at 22. I had the public and all this pressure, and I wish I had just gotten it over with in the beginning when it was sort of OK. I think I would have been much more in touch with myself. I think I wouldn't have had issues with weight--I carried this protective 20 pounds [in college]. It was all connected. And to me, that's a health regret.

Shields is twice married with two young daughters.

I am sorry for her that her childhood was spent in movies, but many have survived worse fates. What next will HP recognize her for getting herself in the news.

Sex is beautiful and wonderful but there is no magic age to start being sexually active.

What Brooke should be talking about is CONTRACEPTION! Making sure that when and if you do have sex you do it responsibly. Don't have sex without a CONDOM until you are ready for a child and to ensure that you do not pick up an STD.

Sex is beautiful and wonderful when its with someone you care about and even better if you're in love. But its not a beautiful thing no matter what. Some 16 year old girl having drunk sex with a different guy every weekend, or just general dirty sluttiness in general isn't "beautiful". Even if she's responsible enough to use protection. And I don't say this from a moral or religious point of view at all (I'm an atheist). I'm saying that it really degrades the value of that girl and her general attractiveness, which can probably best be explained by evolutionary reasons. So no offense but I just have to agree with you that sex is beautiful and wonderful (it can be, but isn't always).
