'Jon & Kate' Sister Urges Viewers NOT To Watch

Kate Gosselin's sister-in-law Julie is urging viewers not to watch TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8 premiere tonight.

Over the weekend, she blogged : "Since TLC is airing the old episodes, I thought I shed some light on how the show works. We've discussed this before, but it's buried somewhere in the archived posts.

"When the show first started, Kate made a wishlist of things that she wanted, and that became the theme of each episode--the carpet, twin's room, bunk beds, cow, hairplugs, teeth whitening, trips, etc. EVERYTHING that you see them do or buy is completely paid for out of the budget for the show or traded for free advertising.

Doesn't anyone find it strange that the relatives showing such great concern for Jon & Kate's kids decided to wait 4-5 years before expressing their concerns? Seriously. Some claim they were worried about the situation years ago, yet they didn’t bother to say anything until now. Are you wondering why that is, because I am? I’d like to know what happened to make them willing to vilify their own loved ones publicly. Why didn’t they address this through proper channels, when they thought it was an issue initially?

In addition, a multitude of reality shows exist featuring children, and while many critics claim that the Gosselin kids are at risk, I don’t hear anyone making a fuss about the other shows. This reinforces the lack of veracity in claims against Jon and Kate.

Perhaps those criticizing the Gosselins should focus upon their own issues, rather than ripping apart a family, who is probably doing the best that they can do, considering their circumstances. I think the people trashing them in public are causing more harm than the Gosselins could possibly cause each other. If they are so worried about the kids, then quit making this a huge public battle, which cannot be beneficial to the children.

I wish Jon, Kate, and their beautiful children the best, and I hope this mindless frenzy will dissipate, enabling them to get back to living their lives.

I see nothing wrong in finding ways to bring money and comfort in for your children. The family was POOR! Kids suffering before they were discovered. The sister in-law probably didn't get a cut. The in-law should be ashamed of herself!

I think this been human. It is terrible that they are going through this mess but sometime a couple have to go through struggle inorder to make their marriage strong. They are young and if both of them are willing to make it work. Their relatives need to stay out of their own business. The sister in-law sounds like she is jealous because of the success of the show. If she really cares than approach both of them and tell them to go get some help or even help them. Julie can baby sit the kids, Jon and Kate can go on a date night, just the two of them. The romance will be back if they work at it. It is not over Jon and Kate unless both of you give up completely. Work it out for the sake of the kids.

My wife watches this crap because of the young children. And I told her wait and see if it doesn't turn into some kind of soap opera, and sure enough it did. Now this really disses my wife off because I was right. If I told her once I told her a thousand times, don't believe in the crap they have on TV.

First if Jon did cheat on his wife because he is annoyed at the cameras and his wife is short with him occasionally, then he is a massive pile of rat dung.

Secondly, the relatives of these people who are acting like backstabbing jerks are even worse. These in-laws need to get a life. They spend all day every day putting their noses in where it doesn't belong. The kids will have money to go to college, they live in a mansion, they eat three meals a day. Meanwhile most other kids on the planet are struggling just to survive let alone thrive. The "exploitation" charge is laying it on a bit thick isn't it? Give me break.

Ask the kids in a few more years. I can see where "everyone could benefit" but the price, in my opinion, is too high. You don't have to have lots of money, go to college, live in a mansion....to thrive. Seems to me they've gotten caught up in a mess that isn't turning out as they may have wished. I don't believe they're putting their children first (at least from what I see and read). If you don't want all the negative attention, quit. Focus on your family. They made due before TLC; they'll make due without as well. Somehow I think "making due", at least for parts of the family, just isn't enough.

I couldn't agree more, there are struggling families in America where the parents are working so much they don't even have the luxury of spending time with their children. No one can really say how these children are being harmed except to say their being 'exploited' which is really a condemnation of the parents for their supposed 'greed' and not a plea for the children.

Weekly outings, secure funding for their education, and new home, oh yeah these kids will need therapy for life because a camera crew films them 3 days a week!

If someone were really worried about the well being of children they'd help out the families in their neighborhood with *real problems*--like the incredible cost of child care, clothing their children, and stress management. Those things really do traumatize a child!

Can someone please explain why these couples with a zillion kids are so celebrated and adored? I'm a straight girl, but can't for the life of me understand what is so fascinating about these breeder couples who are hell-bent on leaving a massive carbon footprint by choosing to have all these kids.

Up on the heels of JK8 on TLC is "Table for 12" - this couple has 10 kids, and previously there was a show on a family with 18 kids or something around that number (I know this only because I occasionally, non-obsessively, watch 'What not to Wear' on TLC!). Why do we as a society so heartily embrace their drama? Even if JK8 were a legit depiction of a struggling family, hey, you had the freedom to choose this for yourself. Like Octomom, you CHOSE to have those kids, so why do you get special treatment? I understand that perhaps you didn't choose sextuplets, but you knew that was the risk in going for fertilization procedures. Why must the rest of us be burdened - financially and otherwise - with your choices?

Worst of all, those 8 kids are being shamelessly exploited just so ma and pa can get their 15 minutes in. It seems to me that at such young ages, the last thing they need are camera crews following every piece of snot that flies out of their noses. The sooner they go away, the better. Enough already!
