Jonas

nytimes.com:

The Jonas Brothers sat backstage recently at the El Rey Theater here, politely answering questions from a small cluster of reporters about their new CD. Publicists conducted SWAT-team surveillance.

In the end nobody had the temerity -- or the opportunity, since the interview session was cut short -- to ask the tough question: Are the Jonas Brothers fizzling as a full-blown Walt Disney Company franchise?

It's a notion that Disney, the world's largest media company, thinks is ludicrous.

2. JB: The 3D Concert Experience

4. U2 3D

5. U2: Rattle and Hum

6. Rolling Stones: Shine a Light

10. N’Sync: Bigger Than Life

TV

The JONAS premiere on the Disney Channel DOUBLED the Disney Channel ratings on a Saturday night with 4 million viewers.

JONAS has been seen by more than 10 million

Ratings Highlights For Tuesday, May 26, 2009– Final National Ratings

In Total Viewers, “JONAS” Ranks as Cable’s No. 1 Telecast at 6 O’Clock

On Tuesday, May 26, 2009, Disney Channel’s original series “JONAS” stood as TV’s No. 1 telecast for the day in Kids 6-11(1.3 million/5.4 rating) and Tweens 9-14(1.1 million/4.6 rating), driving the network to a No. 1 rank in Total Day.

If that is doing badly or fizzling out...then a lot of artists wish they were so lucky!

The Jonas Brothers are a product and nothing else.

First they took art out off schools, that way kids would not know a rotten act when they see one...
Anything Disney reminds me of junk food, it is alright every now and then, but not on a regular basis, and am just glad that we do not watch their channel, their commercial weird hannah montana, and definitely not these boys in tight pants.

If my kids were so talented that Disney came knockin' - I'd take them and run as far away from Disney as I could. Where will they be in 20 year with their careers?

So their hysteria is simmering down. So what? That's Disney's fault, really, for overmarketing and trying to turn the band into multiplatform robots that they are incapable of being because their charisma is uncalculated. (Their TV show is also better than most Disney.)

They'd be lucky if Disney dropped them so they can go be like any other band out there - most of which never get to enjoy a period of hysteria before being able to perform as a normal, less explosive band - the way most bands spend their entire existence. They're still fortunate. (Hey, Hanson still make a living from performing, even if they now do it in relative obscurity.) But I wouldn't count on Disney dropping them...since despite the image destruction provided by their Disney affiliation, the Jonases still outsell most other artists these days. They've sold 1 million tickets for the first half of their 2009 world tour...I think they'll be fine.

But they do deserve more respect for being as talented and hardworking as they are. And they'd be lucky to have a break...they've been touring since they were 12, 15 and 17. (4 years)

Well, whatever. I've liked the Jonases since I first heard them in 2006, and I still do. They are great live (concert live, not TV show performance live - those are only great when the artists lipsync - truly - ie. Phoenix on SNL), I've seen them play acoustic, improvise - they are musicians. I tend to think their inability to reach Hannah Montana sales heights is their LACK of plasticness - because the pop music world is harder on guys in the mass market these days (unlike the good old 80s) and the fact that they are simply better than the stuff that sits on the top of the charts. Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift? I'd rather flunk out of the Top 40 with the rest of the best musicians going - so why do we mock them for proving that's the way things go?

I'm not sure what people's issue is with the Jonas Brothers. They ARE talented; they make somewhat shameless, throwbacky, sincere pop music but they do it well, and it's natural. It also happens to be easy to take advantage of from a Disney's marketer's perspective. Their music is pretty clean, easy-to-consume for kids and families but that doesn't make it generic. They are unique compared to what else has been offered kids since the 70s, really. They are nothing sonically like R&B, syncro-dancing boybands, I think, to their credit.

I truly hope these boys are working on an alternative adult career because they will not be known in 15-20 yrs, maybe sooner. Boy bands come out great, fainting teens, heart throb posters then they fade away. New Kids on the Block were the same way.

Everything about the Jonas Brothers is cheesy and overly contrived. Between their lousy music and their tight pants, there is their lousy acting. I think that Disney should stop trying to shove them down our throats.
