Proposition 8 may have been upheld by the courts today, but George Takei is hopeful it won't be forever.
The Star Trek star, who married longtime love Brad Altman on Sept. 14, 2008, predicts it will take another ballot initiative to once again allow gay marriage in California.
"I am confident that if we go through this again, we will ultimately prevail and our [State] Supreme Court will go into the dust of history," Takei told me earlier today.

Unfortunately, Takei is right. The fight eventually will be won, and this un.natural lifestyle will be declared to be natural, even though it isn't. The emperor will be naked, and Takei will LIKE it. One more step on the quickening decline of the United States.
"Unnatural?" Why would you choose to so vigorously display an ignorance of nature? Granted, homosexuality is not "normal" in the sense of pure numbers and biological reproduction of the species, but just because it is not normal does not maen that it is unnatural.

I don't understand how the CA supreme court can, in effect, totally reverse itself , ruling first that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry, and now that "Prop 8 is not unconstitutional because it carves out a "narrow exception" to these rights."

What are you talking about? France was still a monarchy when the US constitution was written. If anything they borrowed from us. Not that I'm a france hater. We would never have achieved independence from the UK if not for help from the French Navy.
And be thankful the Russian Army was preoccupied or England would have tried to hire it to help them the same way they hired the Hessians.
Yeah, I'm with you... I'm an out-and-out Francophile but it was the French who pinched their (small-r) republican ideals from us.
Wait - this is just the beginning. Now that the precedent is set by this "amendment" to our state constitution, the fundies can get all kinds of things on the ballot. They can now pass all the discriminatory propositions they want, as long as they're willing to put up the cash (which they've proved they are), and to make the sheeple in their congregations get out and vote because "It's a vote for God".
Mob rules. When a majority vote is allowed to remove the rights of a minority population, you no longer have democracy. Because the constitution no longer covers everyone equally. This is really, really bad.

I had a girlfriend who got a major crush on George seeing him shirtless with a sword. Boy did I have fun letting her know she really didn't have a chance.

I just don't understand what has happened to California. It is a dark day for the state that once represented love and tolerance for all.

I agree, Lillibelle. Equality will happen, it's too bad (in the year 2009!) it has to happen later than sooner.
Prop 8 was idiotic but its as foolish to blame the CA judges for not over turning it as it is foolish for the right to constantly whine about activist judges who don't rule their way. This was a question of law, not morality. Even most proponents of over turning 8 thought that the law was not on their side here.
It's a state problem overrun by initiatives. If left to the legislative body gay marriage would become law.
I don't understand why anyone feels threatened if gays want to get married. It doesn't affect my marriage one bit. I believe they should have the same rights as everyone else.
No surprise, though, that conservatives see it differently. They're not much on "rights" for people unless you're the right color or, apparently, the correct sexual orientation.
