Michelle Obama's Memorial Day Weekend Look: MELLOW YELLOW (PHOTOS)

As the first couple crossed the sun-soaked White House lawn on their way to Camp David Saturday, Michelle Obama looked laid-back in a pair of aviator sunglasses, gray dress, yellow floral cardigan, and silver flats. She carried an oversized white (in the spirit of summer) purse with her.

President Obama wore a variation on his 'Dorky Dad' look: khakis, a tucked-in polo shirt, and hiking boots.

FLOTUS is a hugger and she loves people. POTUS meets everyone with respect and as equals. Many marriages are like this and they are the ones that last. Respect is the key and they exude respect for everyone.

Their parents did a great job raising them and leading by example and that can be done by any family, white, black, latino, asian, everyone - it all comes back to respect and equality. Something alot of us still have to learn. Seeing it every day from this wonderful couple just exemplifies the fact that we should be doing it in our own lives because the benefits are enormous and lasting.

In my neighborhood, there are plenty of black guys and gals who look this way, the problem is that MSM has never quite cared nor bothered to show such people existed. It was more in line with the twisted logic of the media to play into the themes of dyfunction and crime, than to take the time to highlight African American couples.

For some, this is a normal scene and for those who see some sort of oddity here, it hints at the media re-inforcement that so often hids the lives of non-whites, unless of course the object is to backhandily push themes of fear and loathing at a still chiefly segregated white demographic audience.

Excellent comment. Americans well non-coloureds seem to be in awe of President and Mrs. Obama's relationship because it is a rarity for the vast majority to see Black Americans in loving committed relationships. Those type of Americans are only aware of the world inside of their minds...

Nice post. And very accurate. Many people "ooohh and aaahh" over the Obamas today in 2009 just as they did when The Cosby Show aired back in 1984. They mistakenly believe that families like the Obamas and TV's Huxtables are an anomaly and couldn't possibly exist in real life.

I appreciate that the Obamas are showing the American public a side of African-American life that combats the negativity so often perpetuated by news media. I love this real-life family unit being front and center with a strong, intelligent, loving husband partnered with an equally strong, intelligent, and loving wife. And the images of two African-American children growing into responsible, respectful teens encourages kids who are already on that path to keep going while inspiring others who are still finding their way. Its a wonderful thing.

So true! They look like people in my family. My parents and both sets of grandparents kissed, held hands and danced with each other like newlyweds until death parted them. And for each couple that was for numerous years. I am so grateful for growing up in a love showing environment. My fiance and I are like this and I know we will be till death parts us as well.
