There you go Ohio, another person that wants to be elected to public office that does NOT know the rules or does not want to follow the rules just to get elected.

Good on the VA. These facilities are for care and treatment of those like me, VETs. Let him go out and buy lists of Veterans Names like everyone else if he wants to solicit their vote.

Portman shafted all veterans when he was at OMB under shrub. The people of Ohio need to be aware of this information and base their votes on his record. Which means the repugniks will give him the win in the primary and he will have his b u t t handed to him in the general election. Why do the 36% treat our veterans so shabbily?

Is that not what politic is really all about? Getting elected so they can "change the laws that will better serve only those who feed themselves from the laws they change and benefit the wealthy?

republicans are constantly wearing their support for the troops on their sleeves, yet they undermine, under-fund every attempt to provide trangible evidence of support- remember walter reed?

I'll lay money down that he only cares about getting elected and if he succeeds, will ignore the VA and vote down military funding.

He already has. According to the article, "Several veterans told Portman that they were concerned about cuts to the VA budget during the Bush administration when Portman was head of the White House Office of Management and Budget. The OMB has broad financial management power as well as the responsibility of preparing the executive budget."

He's lucky he got out of there alive.

This really doesn't surprise me, many politicians (Left and Right) claim to "Support our Troops", but when it comes down to funding...they are no where to be seen. Like or Dislike Obama, he has stood by our Men and women of the Armed Forces.

Without Ds in congress wouldn't the VA have gone broke early in 2006t?

He took his son with him to show how easily you can use people to get elected.I hope his son learned his lesson today. Now that this is a story maybe he can explain to his son how he was unable to be a champion when he headed up the OMB.That's wishful thinking though,if he raised his son,his son is probably a chip off the old block.

This was why President Obama did not take a camera crew or anyone from his campaign when he visited the injured troops in Germany. See, Wingers, it was not a ploy of any kind. There are rules and the GOPers need to follow them as well as the Dems.

You beat me to it. That was so dirty of them. If he had gone, they would have criticized him for exploiting the troops (not like Bush, no matter how legal it was, ever did). Things haven't changed since the campaign. Darned if you do, darned if you don't.

“I will be a champion for this facility if I’m elected,†Portman told a reporter as he left the VA grounds.

He wasn't campaigning???!!!

Why do repugs show comtempt for our military and turn around and use them for votes?
