I'm not sure we brought the perfect democracy to Iraq, but we may have brought a justice system that puts ours to shame.

Exactley.
Iraq has an anti-corruption committee .
Maybe the US Congress could look into creating something like theirs. Maybe the Justice Department could take seriously corporations the previous administration slapped with small fines. Humans working for these corupt corporations that deal with terrorists, gun and drug dealers, Oil company mercenaries and your regular contractors, on a regular basis should be indicted and jailed, like the "little humans" who make up our collecive citizenry.

Iraq has 3 anti-corruption offices and this is the first time ANY of them have been allowed to do any of their work. In 2007 Maliki brought back an old Saddam law known as Article 136 (b) which allows any minister to stop corruption investigations. The head of the main anti-corruption body the Integrity Committee was forced to flee the country after death threats. Dozens of members of the committee have been killed. The Amnesty Law passed in Feb. 08 meant to release prisoners, also crushed almost all of the Integrity Committee's corruption cases. Maliki got rid of a bunch of inspector generals in the ministries last year as well. The reason why these few arrests have happened is because the major political parties are preparing for the provincial elections due for Jan. 2010, and they are going to go after each other in the process. musingsoniraq.blogspot.com
