Obama To Face Gay Protest At Beverly Hills Fundraiser

President Obama, the alleged "fierce advocate" for LGBT rights, is scheduled to attend a Democratic Party fundraiser at the Beverly Hilton tonight, one day after White House spokesman Robert Gibbs refused to offer any official response to the Supreme Court's decision to uphold Proposition 8 in California.

A Courage Campaign-organized demonstration is scheduled to take place in front of the Beverly Hilton this evening. The group writes: "Let's take this opportunity, just one day after the CA Supreme Court makes its decision on Proposition 8, to show our President our support for his daring promise to our community and to highlight the growing movement towards FULL FEDERAL EQUALITY."

While it's true that there is still a racism issue in this country (again, I am trying to stress that racism is not exclusive to a specific sexual orientation and exists in each and every race) you must understand that there are far more people in the movement that are not bigoted racists. It's true there are white homosexual racists, just as there are asian homosexual racists, latino homosexual racists, and even black homosexual racists. The vast majority of us are not bogged down by the prejudices of our parents and grandparents. We need to realize that we're all human beings and we're all connected to each other in more ways than we're different. Obama could speak out on gay issues, if he really thought they were important.

Remember in Feb. 2004, during the San Francisco gay marriages, President Bush gave a speech in which he endorsed a marriage amendment. There was a miniscule chance of it being approved, but he spoke out for his beliefs then.

Similarly, President Obama could speak out since marriage is in the news, and make clear his intent to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, and express regret about Proposition 8. Even if we can't get legislation passed, it would send a message, just as Bush sent the opposite message in '04.

It's called presidential leadership on an issue that you believe in. Assuming that he believes in it.

The great thing about the United STATES of America is that the individual states have the right to pass their own laws.

Federalism provides for this and if don't agree with how your state votes you have the FREEDOM to move to a state that reflects your views like Iowa or Vermont. Not only that, you don't have to surrender your United States citizenship to do so.

Not true! SCOTUS just ruled in a case regarding medical marijuana that there are cases where state law does in fact supercede federal law, in this case requiring 10 hold out counties to issue and distribute medical marijuana ID cards, because the state has passed a medical marijuana law.

I think it has to do with the fact that during his speech at the DNC convention in 2004 when he first mentioned EQUALITY FOR ALL and included Lesbians and Gays, and then again for the 2 years of campaigning for President and he included EQUALITY FOR ALL and included Gays and Lesbians. Then when he mentioned us in his acceptance speech. And those time he talked about DADT and DOMA should definitely be repealed.
Then we got slapped in the face with Rick Warren at the inauguration. Ok, well, everyone says; "be patient, this is how he works."
Then we see talented service men and women losing their careers in the military, a career that means everything to them, simply because they're gay. We have our Rights given to us to marry, and then a simple majority (52%) vote to take that right away.
And through all of this the man stays SILENT towards our community. WE were there for him during the election and campaign.
I think we want him to know we're growing impatient! We're getting tired of waiting. He promised to come through for us....and we want a sign that he still hears us, and that he is working on something for us. But we get SILENCE!
So, I think that's why people are protesting from the Gay Community!

He campaigned for education, offering a hope for children who for years haven't had anyone to fight their cause. He campaigned for the children whom our education system failed to offer the opportunities. He said, he cared about the child who couldn't read even if it wasn''t his child.
