Tom Tancredo Calls Sotomayor Racist (VIDEO)

Tom Tancredo, the former Colorado congressman and radical anti-immigration activist, called President Obama's Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor a racist Tuesday, telling MSNBC's Ed Shultz she has said plenty of "things that are racist."

Tancredo failed to elaborate on his claims, but he suggested Sotomayor's nomination should be blocked on account of her "racism." No one else has called her out for before, he said, because she is Latina.

"Unfortunately for her, and fortunately us, there are plenty of things that we've even talked about here already that you keep ignoring," Tancredo said. "I'm telling you she appears to be a racist. She said things that are racist in any other context, that's exactly how we would portray it, and there's no one that would get on the Supreme Court, saying a thing like that, except for a Hispanic woman and you're going to say it doesn't matter? Well, man, where are you coming from? How can you possibly say that?"

Tancredo, who ran for president in 2008 on an anti-immigration platform, is no stranger to racist comments. One of his campaign ads suggested that illegal immigrants are likely to be terrorists. Among the causes he championed while serving four terms in Congress was an effort to deport all illegal immigrants from the country and outlaw any type of immigration to the U.S. -- legal or illegal. Tancredo once sought to deport the family of a Denver high school student who was profiled in the local paper for his good grades after he learned the student was not a legal citizen.

The challenge the Rebackwards party has with this argument is the only people who will listen to this BS are the racist who just want to be able to use the word for once in their life. The general minority population will laugh this off, and everyone else is too smart to fall for it. That would leave about 1.01 percent of the population. Good luck with that as a polling number in 2010.

Alito: "My family’s immigrant experience shaped judicial outlook"

Via Glenn Greenwald (and one of his readers) comes a moment from Samuel Alito’s confirmation hearings that will either silence Sonia Sotomayor’s conservative critics or expose their hypocrisy for what it is.

In an exchange with Sen. Tom Coburn, who had asked Alito to discuss how his personal experiences shows that "he cared for the little guy," Alito said that his family’s experience as immigrants influenced his outlook on immigration cases.

Alito:

"And that’s why I went into that in my opening statement. Because when a case comes before me involving, let’s say, someone who is an immigrant — and we get an awful lot of immigration cases and naturalization cases — I can’t help but think of my own ancestors, because it wasn’t that long ago when they were in that position…

When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account."

Listening to the republican dynamos of racism and bigotry is getting to be too entertaining. One thing for sure, you can't make this stuff up. These people are seriously demented and in need of some serious counseling and medication. The consequences of the republican party being taken over by southern racists are coming to the surface. What was previously cloaked in positions espoused by the likes of Newt and the not so moral majority, is being revealed as the work born of a southern strategy which took quite a while to fail. Needless to say, it's about time! With a Georgia cracker like Newt as a possible presidential challenger in 2012, the GOP is done for!
