Abdul Majid Dudeen, the leader of Hamas' Ezzidin Al-Qassam Brigades, has been shot and killed by Israeli forces in Skak, a town just west of Hebron in the West Bank, Albawaba reports. Dudeen has been on Israel's wanted list for a few years now, due to his suspected involvement in at least two attacks on Israeli buses, according to the BBC. Dudeen had previously been detained by Palestinian authorities, but was later released. His killing is being referred to by Hamas as an Israeli terrorist attack that the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank failed to prevent, the BBC report notes.

The Albawaba report cites eyewitnesses who describe an Israeli raid with 16 military vehicles storming Dudeen's hideout.

The U.S. administration is ratcheting up pressure on Israel to do the obvious if it is serious about peace: stop stealing land and building settlements. Israel's response from its well worn playbook: send assassination squads into the PT to foment anger and confusion in order to thwart the process from gaining momentum. Launch Operation Stick In the Eye.

Hamas was democratically elected to lead the Palestinians. So if we suspect Israeli leaders of wrong doing, then we can kill them too?

No, because that would lower us to their level. As Americans, we adhere to a higher moral standard than those who murder their opponents rather than using a court of law.

Was that before they threw their political adversaries Fatah off the rooftops, wasn't it?

Here's the facts ... democratically elected doesn't mean you get to threaten your adversaries with death which is exactly what Hamas does - or maybe that's what you believe?

re/"Democratically elected to lead."

Really? where have you been in the last couple of years?

Hamas illegally took over Gaza in a military take- over violating many laws and rules in the process.

The only place Hamas can lead Palestinains is into an abyss.

Correction:
After failing to anticipate Hamas’s victory over Fatah in the 2006 Palestinian election, the White House cooked up yet another scandalously covert and self-defeating Middle East debacle: part Iran-contra, part Bay of Pigs. With confidential documents, corroborated by outraged former and current U.S. officials, the author reveals how President Bush, Condoleezza Rice, and Deputy National-Security Adviser Elliott Abrams backed an armed force under Fatah strongman Muhammad Dahlan, touching off a bloody civil war in Gaza and leaving Hamas stronger than ever.

We in the United States and countries around the world go after "suspected" terroist.

It seems the writers here would give Osama a free pass.

Oh I forgot this is about Israel the "Grand Evil Doer" of all that is bad.

They don't have the same rights as the rest of the world - Arab schools teach they are sub-human.

This guy was the mastermind behind two bus bombings in the mid-90s that killed 50 Israeli civilians.
Anybody still willing to defend him?

If he's been convicted in a true court of law for bus bombings, I'm totally with you, Peter. If he hasn't, he was simply murdered by people who don't adhere to the rule of law.

I see this written a lot. But reality is US foreign aid to Israel represents about one percent of Israel's GDP. We send a much larger subsidy to the oil rich countries e.g. Saudi Arabia by protecting them with a carrier group in the Persian gulf and bases in their country. When we pull out of Iraq expect this subsidy to grow because we will no longer only be protecting the oil states from their own citizens but Iran as well.

"...we will no longer only be protecting the oil states from their own citizens..."

Why is it that the 'oil states' have to be protected from their own citizens? You are implying a separation between the citizens and the state, and degree of citizen representation. If the state is being threatened by its citizens, then it's institutions are unjustified and should be dismantled, however, not by the US but by the citizens themselves. It's called democracy and your statement suggests you support something other than democracy.

Furthermore, if US aid doesn't matter to Israel, then why don't they make their own helicopters/military equipment? Take a look at the US/Israel voting record at the UN and you will see how the US supports Israel in ways other than just monetary/military.

I think that refutes your argument to minimize the significance of US' aid to Israel and whatever argument you made in regards to citizens of 'oil states.'

Please feel free to respond.

whatever the amount Johnny Lee it is money that is going to support this rogue state . . . and the US has provided an umbrella for israel . . .israel has a hot line to the Pentagon for arms, planes, etc etc . . . which they use to kill Palestinians . . to invade Lebanon . . . the list goes on . . . the plug has to pulled and UN sanctions must be put into effect that is the only way to get israel to the negotiating table

Get real. Israeli crimes are condemned by Jews as well as those of other religions, or those of no religion. Criticism of Israel's abuses of the Palestinians is not criticism of Jews any more than criticism of Iran is directed at Muslims.
