Al Qaida Interrogations Cookies

Editor & Publisher:

Fascinating piece coming in tomorrow's TIME magazine. Reporter Bobby Ghosh writes, "The most successful interrogation of an al-Qaeda operative by U.S. officials required no sleep deprivation, no slapping or 'walling' and no waterboarding. All it took to soften up Abu Jandal, who had been closer to Osama bin Laden than any other terrorist ever captured, was a handful of sugar-free cookies."

Since he did not have the courage to man up on waterboarding maybe Hannity will volunteer to eat cookies.
About his speed.

If you approve of waterboarding one, you approve of waterboarding.

And if you think waterboarding Hannity for charity is torture then you think waterboarding is torture. Next?

Using cookies is torture, think of all those deprived Americans school children that had to go to bed without their cookies or the homeless in soup kitchens deprived of their cookies, what a travesty I tell you simply shameful, I hope Hannity has something to say about this today.

Give my spouse a six pack or a bottle of crown and he'll sing like a bird. The hard part is figuring out how to shut him up afterwords.

What made the terrorists give up more information, cookies with chocolate or butter scotch?

I've got two bags of soft, chewy chips ahoy at my house and everybody's invited! Who wants chocolate milk?

What would work even better is to offer them a 7 figure job on Wall Street, complete with a golden parachute and a house in the Hamptons.

AND it would be cheaper by far than invading two countries, occupying them for seven years, and destroying America's international reputation in the process...

I don't think al Qaeda members subscribe to our Wall Street greed mentality. Bin Laden gave up his wealthy family's creature comforts to promote and defend his religion; others intentionally gave their lives in misguided attempts to do the same.

It has been proven over and over and over again that kindness works. RARELY if ever has there ever been or will be one of those "we must have the information NOW!" situations.

The torture was all about creating the link between Iraq and the boogie men.

But let's keep it real here folks....we can say this now but..we don't know what actionable intelligence that was presented to them except for the august PDB. Several U.S. was were attacked in spectacular and devastating fashion. The govt was scattered and hiding in separate bunkers, fear was abound across the land! Maybe they thought it was, a ticking time bomb scenario. I'm not advocating torture. However we have to contextualize and sympathize our remarks with re: to the time and situations we are and were living in.

We should have put more cookies in the oven. I don't expect my elected officials to lose it every time they're afraid of something or someone.

So you're excusing the fact that professionals have to do their job PROFESSIONALLY just because it was an emergency?
That's the excuse cops give when they beat the crap out of an already handcuffed suspect.
Yes, of course there are times when those beatings will yield information that stops a second crime from being committed, I realize that.
But that still doesn't justify legalizing such behavior, or even ATTEMPTING to do so, and it certainly does not justify giving up one's professional ethics either.
The US was attacked in a spectacular and devastating fashion, the govt was scattered and hiding in separate bunkers, and all of a sudden the order came down:
"OKAY everybody, let's forget that we are consummately trained professionals!"

Yeah, right.

OMG, correction to the first line:

So you're excusing the fact that professionals DO NOT have to do their job PROFESSIONALLY just because it was an emergency?

This makes me sad. The US chose the inhumanity of torture over humanity of basic treatment. Shameful.

Speak for yourself--I am a US citizen but didn't chose torture. I did chose to move to a blue state where my elected representatives are "somewhat" progressive. I also contribute what I can afford to elect progressive candidates. During the bush crime family regime, I spent a lot of time when overseas telling Europeans that I didn't vote for the Rushlicans, even though I had to apologize for their actions.

What amazes me is the GOP came close to winning in 08. It should have been a landslide.
Instead it was 52% to 45%. That is not a large gap. 59 million people voted for "terror-fear-terror" again.
