David Hyde Pierce

David Hyde Pierce talked about his anger over Prop 8 on "The View" on Thursday.

Pierce married his longtime partner last year, but has always stayed quiet about his personal life until now.

"Brian and I always kept a low profile, we didn't hide our lives," Pierce told the ladies. "We got married very quietly last October 24 and thought that was fine, and then suddenly the state of California said, 'no it's not.'"

Pierce went on to say, "Can you imagine if you're married the people in your state getting together and saying, no you're not... It was a very angry-making decision... It's none of your business."

Yeah, whatever happened to the "none of your business" argument?

I didn't know he was gay.

He is absolutely correct. It's none of your business.

Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . David. Congratulations on getting married. Now on to more important things. You are one of the finest physical comedic actors of our generation. WHEN are you going to get back in front of the camera? Your talent is missed!

The solution is beyond obvious... which is why it hasn't been done... seperate civil marriage from religious marriage.
In Mexico and in parts, if not all of Europe and elsewhere I'm sure, the church cannot marry someone in the eyes of the law... the words "By the powers vested in me by the state of..." should never be uttered by a priest, minister, rabbi, etc.
I was married in Mexico. There, you show up with a marriage certificate (married in the eyes of the state by a judge) and THEN you get married in the church.
If a church doesn't feel you should be married for whatever reason... FINE... but you're still married.

Hmmm.. interesting. Wish we could just let go of church altogether, though.

We need secular rec centers wih big Sunday potlucks and charity events. Not bowing down to idols and subjugating ourselves to "higher authorities".

Well said. Wild....You made way to much sense for those who wish to remain closed -minded and use words written by men that are long dead, words that have been revised a thousand times over, reinterpreted, has many versions - King James, New American Versions...., and now those wish to say these words are Law. What kind of laws get written and revised without a peer review and voted on prior to becoming Facts?

Man my gaydar must be working like a charm because I thought this guy was gay from the first time I saw Frasier. Same with Clay Aiken and the new guy on Am. Idol.

Here's my question: if gay people can't get married legally because religious people say it's an abomination against God's gift of the institution of marriage [although it predates Christianity by several thousand years...], why are heterosexual Atheists allowed to get married?

That's not why gay people can't get married. It's because a majority of people don't want to expand the definition of marriage.

But the only reason people give for not wanting to extend that definition is because it goes against their religious convictions.

A majority of people probably didn't want to "expand the definition of marriage" when the Supreme Court said that it was not okay to prohibit inter-racial marriage, either. Didn't make it right then. Still doesn't make it right.

My husband and I attended the recent rally for Marriage Equality in NYC. David spoke there with his husband at his side.

He spoke about what his marriage and his wedding band meant to him, how it represents what he and his husband have gone through, their future together, their love, and the support of their family and friends who celebrated their wedding with them. By the end of his speech, I was in tears. He had vocalized how I feel about my own husband, and my own marriage. It is exactly why I support marriage equality. Why should our marriage be legal because we're straight, and his illegal because he's not? No one has given me a satisfactory answer to this.

What this issue is about at it's core is civil rights in the pursuit of happiness. It need not involve religion, and if you aren't the one getting married, it is really none of your business.

You know I understand he felt it was private. However, I can't help but wonder if he had come out and spoken up before November 8th, maybe the vote wouldn't have gone that way.

Maybe if more Gay people stood up with pride about their relationships, the crazies wouldn't hold so much power.

You know the one thing I have learned, keeping secrets make them seem evil and terrible, and perspective is lost.

always fascinated that gay marriage is banned. If I declared my religion(for example..) The Rainbow Christians For CHRIST shouldnt i be able to practice my religion as i see fit without the state or federal authorities being involved? If my minister/priest/father/-whatever...marries me and another consenting adult at my congregation...wouldn't that work? Freedom of religion.
oh and by the way I am a heterosexual....

The primary goal of a new president is to get re-elected. Any contraversial goals could then be contronted in the second term. This is probably the best reason why term limits exist.

This whole argument is ridiculous. As an American I know the Constitution guarantees all citizens equality under the law. As a Christian I know Jesus said to do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Neither of those as an asterisk that says except gay people. Why do Conservatives hate the Constitution and deny Christ? And if your Old Testament centered Christianity says it's a sin, which other sinners are denied marriage? Murderers, rapists, adulterers? Nope they all can marry. So the "it's immoral" argument is a lie. Stop the lies. You don't want gays to marry because you don't like gay people. Own it. Stop bearing false witness. Friggin jerks.

They all laud strict Constitutionalism until it comes to people that don't see eye to eye with them. Then it's "Well the Founders didn't anticipate , and won't someone think of the children?"

Most "Christians" like these are some of the most UNChrist-like people around. Luckily, it's the hypocrites like them that get sent first to you-know-where when the Rapture comes.

"...I understand all the religious and emotional issues that are involved."
-Pierce

Actually, civil marriage is not a religious issue. Civil marriage, recognized and performed by the state, has nothing to do with religion and never needs to occur in a church, synagogue, temple or mosque...ever.

That Marriage Equality has become an issue in the first place betrays the combination of church and state the antithesis of which this country was supposedly founded on.

Glad to hear from him, sorry we have to.... This really isn't anyone's business. If you don't want to marry a gay person, then don't. If you want a wedding in a church, good luck finding one that works for you. If you want to tell other people who they can marry then somebody needs to slap you one upside the head and remind you that the world does not rotate around what you believe....

This is such a fabricated issue. Who in their right mind would really care if they weren't incited by parties who uses the issue as a red herring to draw voters into supporting right wing extremist candidates who will vote against their interests in other matters?
