What's Your Reaction?
David Hyde Pierce

David Hyde Pierce talked about his anger over Prop 8 on "The View" on Thursday.

Pierce married his longtime partner last year, but has always stayed quiet about his personal life until now.

"Brian and I always kept a low profile, we didn't hide our lives," Pierce told the ladies. "We got married very quietly last October 24 and thought that was fine, and then suddenly the state of California said, 'no it's not.'"

Pierce went on to say, "Can you imagine if you're married the people in your state getting together and saying, no you're not... It was a very angry-making decision... It's none of your business."

I can assure you Deni, more straight people are killed, beaten and discriminated against on an annual basis based on raw numbers of straight vs. gay in the US demographic makeup.

Oh, really, you can "assure" us? Because...you wish it to be so? If you had the evidence, you'd present it. You don't, because you know you're lying.

"More straight people are killed, beaten and discriminated against on a annual basis" OK, even if I accept your number -- it's not a germaine point UNLESS you are claiming that this is happening BECAUSE those people are straight. Is that what you are trying to say? I highly doubt it.

I know exactly what you mean! I think its just best to assume everybody in showbiz is gay until proven otherwise! That would seem to be easier to do. Although David Hyde Pierce was kinda easy to spot. Watching him kiss Daphne (Jane Leeves) on Frasier so awkward! Who were they trying to fool!

And because you are straight you don't have to be afraid of bigots who think you're a pervert who should be cropped from the gene pool actually cropping you. You don't have to worry about being hung from a fence after being beaten almost to death just because of who you are. You don't have to worry about so-called Christians picketing your funeral either. I'm straight too, but at least I understand this is a civil rights issue not a "sex" issue.

I'm glad they feel safe enough to come out. Folks like Rock Hudson, Raymond Burr, Richard Chamberlain, Tab Hunter had to keep their sexuality under the radar for most their careers.

Two things.

A. I never realized DHP was gay. In hindsight, it makes sense, though.

B. Having never seen his partner, I can't keep myself from imagining it is Brian from Family Guy.

We can only hope the Left Behind coast finally decides to catch up with Iowa and uber-catholic Massachusetts very very soon.

He is absolutely right... its nobody else's damned business.

That's my understanding. That's why this can be appealed to the US Supreme Court. The CA Court has created 2 classes of citizens - one with marriage and benefits that come with that classification and the rest of the population that are now denied that access.

That's not legal under equal protection clause. It' more complex than that around the argument, but that's the core issue on the current ruling.

Maybe that's why the State Supreme Court ruled that way. They know it's just a matter of time before it goes to the U.S. Supreme Court and well the rest will be history.

Yes, his marriage is still recognized but no other gay couples can marry in California legally. That's what sucks. I think his point was that the ruling made him feel as if the only reason his marriage is recognized by the state is because he was able to marry before those rights were taken away.

Which is exactly why it is now a direct violation of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution. It created two classes of people.

...............................................................................................................
Perhaps "gayness" is natures way of providing birth control to an over populated planet. Plagues, famine and Wars have sufficed in the past to reduce the population, but medical science has now challenged nature and made successful attempts at eliminating two of these threats. It is now for society to determine if the efforts of the human race to regenerate itself through the marriage between a Man and a Woman should extend itself for future generations. The survival of the human race is being challenged by misdirected members .

I believe too much thought goes into the "rights, wrongs and reasons" of gay, straight, black, white, purple.... It is what it is, just as love is what it is between consenting adults.

When I go to bed at the end of the day in a dark room, all I am thinking is how safe and wonderful it feels to be in the arms of the person I love. Everyone deserves that feeling and that right if they wish to have it.

Why are the words "man" and "woman" capitalized? Is your spelling as shockingly bad as your reasoning? How is the human race going to go under just because some members are homosexual and may not (not WILL not) produce children? Is being gay that tempting to everyone that heterosexuals are going to give up mating together?

Heterosexual couples like my Brother and Sister-in-law that decide to marry and not have children, should not get the same rights as those propagating the species? They are apparently misdirected, and I shall let them know.

In the U.S., the natural order of things, when fighting for civil rights, is that the victims will eventually get their due. The sad part is the amount of time it takes to get said due. I'm always amazed by how progressive this country appears to be externally, but how slow the wheels turn when it comes to civil rights internally.

Slavery, woman's rights, legal immigrant rights, child labor/childrens' rights, segregation/African-American rights, interracial marriage, just being gay (coming out) and now inevitably gay marriage becoming legal throughout the entire U.S, only to name a few, are all moments of evolution in this country, albeit at a crawl.

Anyone can blow all the hot air they want, whether pro or con, as we watch this heated issue on gay marriage go back and forth and back and forth, but this is just another in a long line of civil rights that will pass across the board - because it is the right thing to do.

Let's just hope it doesn't take so long this time and set a precedent for the next issue that will arise.

Until the movement rallies around a powerful spokesperson such as a Martin Luther King or Gandhi it will take a long time. There is, unfortunately, no focal point to lead the country and motivate the electorate to do what is right. In that vacuum religious bigots have been holding their ground. The case for gay rights is simply logical.

there's no reason to expect traditional figures are needed, what's traditional about much of popular culture, especially social leaderhsip?. what we need is reasonable straights who don't need to be spoken to like children to help us and themselves.

Good for him. An excellent example of a long-time relationship and the reason gays should
be able to marry. But as a gay man myself, I am changing my mind about outing. Not all
gay men are closeted because they are ashamed. Many, knowing how biased the public
can be, are protecting their image for professional reasons. Could a hot NASCAR driver admit
he was gay? Could a football coach? Or a right-wing radio host? The only persons who should
be outed are those who are publicly anti-gay.

First of congrats to David and Brian. Second, as I've pointed out elsewhere, our history has been one of the slow, unsteady expansion of basic human rights. History is on our side. I hope I'll live to see the day when, if you're looney enough to think you can tolerate someone for the rest of your life, you can marry them. It will happen, just not as quickly as some of us would prefer.
