David Hyde Pierce On His Marriage, Prop 8 Anger (VIDEO)

David Hyde Pierce talked about his anger over Prop 8 on "The View" on Thursday.

Pierce married his longtime partner last year, but has always stayed quiet about his personal life until now.

"Brian and I always kept a low profile, we didn't hide our lives," Pierce told the ladies. "We got married very quietly last October 24 and thought that was fine, and then suddenly the state of California said, 'no it's not.'"

Pierce went on to say, "Can you imagine if you're married the people in your state getting together and saying, no you're not... It was a very angry-making decision... It's none of your business."

I had to cross over Folsom to get to Market. Not in the closet. I wouldn't be offended by a gay guy having pictures of his partner on his desk. I just think the videos of sexual acts in a public place is not appropriate...gay or straight. The person above makes a good point about Mardi Gras though.

I think you...and others posting in response to the original poster...and quick to jump to an angry reply and you're not see that what he's saying is REALLY at the heart of why same-sex marriage still has an uphill battle. For the most part, the average middle-American person doesn't see "nice pictures" on a desk or things that they can associate with. For better or worse...whether it's the fault of the media or the gay community itself...what people often picture in their heads -- yes, even to this day -- IS something like the more wild side of San Francisco pride parades and outrageous drag queens and whatnot. And THAT images doesn't necessarily scare middle America -- but it DOES make them say "What a bunch of freaks!" and then they go against gay marriage.

What the gay community REALLY needs...as it now works to repeal Prop 8...is MORE people like David Hyde Pierce stepping forward, where they can talk calmly and look normal and just reassure middle America that the wold won't end if same sex marriage is passed. But the gay community really needs to put a better face on things then they have in the past. Less yelling...more talking...better imagery...better at convincing people. That's just Politics 101 to getting the votes you want.

I happened to be in San Francisco years ago at the same time the Gay Pride Parade was happening. Really enjoyed it; especially the "Sister of Perpetual Indulgence".

No, that stuff is not ok. I can chose not to watch the TV. I happen to be out and about on those days and think that what's on display there is not suitable for public streets.

Freelance makes a good point above. Maybe I just get the 'wrong' image or just see the fringe. I don't know. It is a PR issue though.

I think you have to pay money and go through a gate after showing ID if you want to go to the Folsom Street Fair, so its not like they are thrusting it into your cherubic and innocent face. As for Pride Parades, they have to follow the normal laws regarding public parades, such as getting permits, arranging for safety and conduct in public. But, yeah, what lostintheBronx said about Mardi Gras. Add most bars with music, beaches, the workplace, dark streets at night and so on. As a woman, I can tell you that I have had a lot thrust in my face by heterosexual men, and most of the time, I am seriously not crazy about it.

Child rapists can and DO marry! Usually to women in crisis with vulnerable kids. For all the conservative religious harping on the issue of marriage, no one mentions this in their arguments for making kids safer. Real and present dangers like this are the family's responsibility to avoid, but some speculative attenuated argument about how having 2 moms or 2 dads gets them all riled up. It's mind boggling!

David has a right to be happy, it goes towards life, liberty and the persuit of happiness. It never said you had to be straight, in a heterosexual marriage to have this. Those whose agendas it is to monitor what happens between couples, gay or straight, I have this to say to you.....GET a DAMN Life. I am sad for this man that he could not feel he could admit, he was gay and he was with someone who loved him. Don't we have enough hate in this world? What difference does it make if the guy is gay or straight, chooses to marry a man instead of a woman? This is why I refuse to follow any religion that prevents couples from doing what they choose. Its our life, and how we live it is our business, not that of some right wing nut religious, fundy group. I am straight, in a relationship with a man I love, and I see nothing wrong with gay couples who want to marry and live together. David, be happy honey, life is too short to listen to idiots.

When I was ten years old I remember someone making a homophobic comment. At that time I did not fully understand what he was saying but I do remember thinking that the comment said so much more about him than it did about the group he was attempting to disparage. I knew he was bigoted.

It is amazing to me that forty years later that this bigotry still exists at the level it does.
