Gillette: Genital Shaving Video

In its latest ad campaign, Gillette's reaching out to a new market: aspiring body shavers. AdAge passes along Gillette's "How To Shave Your Groin" YouTube spot. The title pretty much says it all. (We'll spare you the details -- like the need to use "short, light strokes," for example). Check out the full video below:

I find it amusing that those who equate this with pre-pubescent sex, probably don't get all worked up over facial hair, and that they are probably equally unaware that plucking the hair from the pubic area is a practice that's been observed by many different cultures over the years, especially desert cultures and those in the tropics where heat, hygiene and neatness all count. It's about time we become more tolerant of others behaviors and stop equating anything we dislike with some kind of sexual perversity in particular when those allegations come from our own victorian era prudishness about exposed genitals and other sexual expression­s...shame on them, and secretely I think they like it a bit too much.

hair was put there for a reason. i've NEVER met a woman who insisted it be bald, anymore than i would insist she be bald. keep it nicely trimmed especially around the trunk and you're good to go. now the tea bags that's another story, clean as a whistle is my motto.

Hygiene is the number one reason to keep things in check, hair holds odors and in the heat if that hair is growing down the thighs not only does it not look good, because the undies is not holding things in, it gets in your clothes. So shave, wax, or whatever you do keep your body odor in check.

Keeping it trimmed very nicely and the bikini area waxed and shaving/or waxing the whole enchilada are 2 different things.
Body odor has many causes and genital hair is not the main one.

This is good information to know in DEER TICK COUNTRY, a medical necessity. You have to SEE them to REMOVE them. If you feel them bite it's too late. You only have to have LYME DISEASE once. After they burrow under the skin the Doctor or you have to dig them out. Ticks carry many other nasty infections. BEWARE THE RED BULLSEYE RASH.

HA! I agree - I did an experimental full shave down below years ago, and almost went insane with scratching until it grew in. It wasn't just the scratchiness, either - I found that the skin of my bare sac stuck to my thigh. This was uncomfortable & distracting, and required constant 'adjustments'.

Lately I've tried a trim of the bush, no shave, no ball-scalping. Seems to be a happy medium, though it looks kind of pre-pubescent to me.

Nah, just use the old fashioned cut-throat razor like I had to when giving patients pre-op shaves. You just gotta watch the tree doesn’t swing the wrong way when wielding the cut-throat, that’s all or you’ve got a pre pre-op op.

Alternatively you can always give it an interesting French look by waxing it into two curled up mustachios like on Inspector Clouseau’s face.

we all don't have to look like pre-adolescent children, you know. there is something creepy about men and women waxing or shaving off ALL of their pubic hair (and more!). a bikini line is one thing, but these brazillian waxes are pretty ridiculous. i think i'd be a little suspect about a guy who shaves absolutely everything off. i'm not looking to schtup a little boy, you know.

It's not about other people, for some of us. I know a lot of people, male & female, who do it because it feels nice. Yes, my leg hair is DISTRACTING. Especially in shorts on a windy day. I'm not kidding, either.

Everything feels better and cleaner. My skin feels uniform. And, I am an old-school hippie-type who didn't shave for years and years (other than my head!) until I discovered the awesomeness of waxing.

Why is the assumption always pointed toward a person's body being there for the enjoyment of others? I'm old, scarred, and fat. No one's getting any fun out of this bag of flesh but me. And it's more fun with less hair everywhere but my head (and that's just long enough to play with).
