I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Olbermann Mancow Interview

Miami Herald:

I dunno, maybe actual NBC reporters don't want to come on Keith Olbermann's show since he took to bellowing insults at them on the air while anchoring the network's coverage of the Republican convention last year. Whatever the reason, he's now apparently resorted to faking stories. The media-news site Gawker has been reporting for two days that the video of waterboarding you can see up above was faked. And, Gawker adds (though, it should be noted, without attribution), Olbermann knew it.

There is only ONE question that needs to be asked...

Is Judith Miller still the managing editor of the Miami Herald?

Thanks for the reply. I mentioned Judy Miller and her working for the Miami Herald. I found something curious. On her wikipedia page, there is no reference at all to her working for the Miami Herald. Hmm. Nor whom she is working for now. Only a reference that the only thing she's done since 2005 was becoming a "Fox News contributor".

In addition to the FN work, she's also part of an investigative firm that has a dubious reputation. Kroll & Associates. I finally found Judy Miller's official bio. It does mention her work for the Miami Herald, and Miami being where she still is. So now she's doing "investigative" journalism for this little known company.

Interesting observation in her official bio... her claiming that she was a central figure in the 2000 election outcome. I don't remember that. Does anyone else?

So now a new question is begged. Why would the Miami Herald concern itself with the affairs of a small-time Chicago radio station personality when all of the Chicago newspapers don't even know anything about it?

MH wrote this to judstify waterboarding & torture to the Right. Also to attempt to keep themselves alive before they too goe down the tubes like the other print papers.

oh please. it's not a justification for torture. who cares what some shockjock's opinion is on what's torture or not? is he an expert on the subject?

it was more a condemnation of KO's and MSNBC's lack of fact-checking and presentation of a distorted view. nothing new imo.

I totally agree with you meade. Gawker no doubt is part of the Floridiots that make up the GOP down there and they will never have the rational to admit the breaking of laws, or the truth in general. Slaxx get your head out of the FOXhole.

I was a listener of Mancow for about four years until his morning show turned into a Clinton bashing fest. Mancow is a sensationalist but he would not come on Olbermann's show or say what he went through is torture if he didn't feel it wasn't.

I'm sure this guy from Miami is on to something.

It's a little known neocon fact (though it being unknown doesn't make it any less untrue) that when we (the good guys) waterboard the bad guys as good Christians we always use softend water.

Mancow's waterboarding was done with untreated tap water. No wonder he broke so easily.

Hey Culligan Man!

Didn't Olbermann mention Gawker about two weeks ago talking of the Olbermann-Maddow-Affleck rumor?

"Finally, and just for the record, I also mysteriously took off Monday, May 4th, and was seen at the Yankees game that night with my friends Jason Bateman and David Cross. Stay tuned to Cityfile or Wonkette or Gawker or a Boston Globe blog, because maybe, maybe, I really had a fist fight with Brian Williams in the NBC commissary earlier in the day. Or maybe I had one to Westchester that afternoon to place the urn containing my mother's ashes in her final resting place. You know what they say. We report, you decide." -May 14, 2009

Kind of ironic that a (shoddy) piece accusing Olbermann of faking the news would come out a couple weeks later, don'tch'a think?

Ironic that with that story too, Danny Shea, the editor of this section on this website ALSO cross posted that smear as FACT.

I emailed Olberman, MSNBC, as well as Media Matters. It seems that calling out RW smears on a "progressive site" will get zero ratings and probably confuse people.

Question the source first. What does the Miami Herald have to gain by trying to make this a viable story?
There is no proof and no attributions.... just opinions.

I don't trust much of anything that the MH publishes.

Did you read the comments at the actual MH site? They're great. Garvin was pretty much savaged by the readers for his shoddy "journalism."

The Re-ch will do anything to preserve itself. Waterboarding is a crime; it was used to drum up false confessions in fact. The denial on that side is so thick you can't cut it with a knife. You need a hacksaw.

Waterboarding is irrelevant.

The original question was, "Does the US torture?"

I think being sodo.mized with a police baton answers that question pretty clearly.

I disagree that WB is irrelevant, but I thunk I understand what you are saying.
Torture is torture. It doesn't matter what particular method is used.
If that was your point, then I agree.

It is really amazing to me that this debate has turned to if the WB is torture or not.
IRRELEVANT!!!
It is a crime. It has been a crime for generations.
Does it work? Irrelevant, it's a crime!
Did we get good info? I doubt it, but still irrelevant. It's a crime!
We only used it on three guys. Irrelevant, it's a crime!
I don't understand how the debate got shifted to the point that so many are defending something that is, and has been, ILLEGAL

"I don't understand how the debate got shifted to the point that so many are defending something that is, and has been, ILLEGAL"

I think we can all thank the media for making this debatable. You're right, waterboarding is torture, illegal and a war crime. The question should be, when are we going to bring those responsible to justice?

True!
We should be asking WHEN the trail starts, not IF there will be one(or more).
I am a huge Obama fan, but I completely disagree with his stance on this issue.
AG Holder has to do something. We are bound by several agreements to investigate.
And don't forget "universal jurisdiction". It will be pretty embarrassing for Obama if another country actually files charges.

This article misrepresents Gawkers side as well. Regardless, anyone who watched the video knew it was approached as a joke- it just got serious when the water started flowing.

Something to keep in mind, journalist like who try this can stop at any moment. Even then, they're completely out of sorts-- without exception, every journalist to be water boarded came out of it wishing they had never done it. That's after 6 seconds, not hours on end for weeks.

I'm not buying it. Gawker has been played.

If you read the comments on the Miami Herald piece and at Gawker it sounds like this dog ain't gonna hunt.
