I have lived here in Cairo for six years and we are all pretty damn excited about him coming! I think the Egyptians I know love Obama and are also very excited about his visit. They seem to have real hope that things will improve under this administration. The night of the election, every guard, every bowaab, every policeman I passed grinned from ear to ear and shouted happily, OBAMA! They were watching tvs in the streets, listening to radios, and were celebrating his win. I love Egypt and the people here and I really hope the living situation for them can improve.

Unpleasant sight-seeing may often lead to mental affliction and derangement of the brain.

I was in Egypt in February with a group and stopped in at a spice/perfume shop in Gaza after visiting the pyramids. The owner's son was probably 14 or so and was very social but definitely knew absolutely NO ENGLISH.... the only thing he said to me with a giant smile was "Obama" "Obama" "Obama". It reminded of a soccer club chant. True story swear to god.

Let me tell you finding common ground in Gaza for me was hard to come by and that was awesome

I, also, was in Egypt for two months . In my conversations with Coptic Orthodox Christians and Muslims, I found much enthusiasm for President Obama. The one question most asked me was about the "shoe throwing incident/Bush"! There was always a thumbs down for George Bush. When I was asked what I thought, I simply responded, "he missed"! This response actually opened up more dialogue. Any anti American feelings were always directed at George Bush, not at Americans. I found Egyptians quite pleasant, open, & hospitable. I believe President Obama will be well received.

Why would you ask people to send photos of security prep?

Foolish.

I'll see your foolish and raise you a Duh.

Does the article say security preparations? Do you honestly think if some terrorist organization was planning something they would rely on HufPo pictures of some shop owner handing a welcome Obama sign.for their intel when they most likely have thousands of sympathizers living in the country?

Grow a brain dummy.

yea.. i couldn't even try to take pictures of the security personnell.. i would get in so much trouble. but there is certainly a lot of it. all over the city. and as soon as the sun went down, truck loads of more security appeared all over the city to further secure it. newspaper headline today claims 15000 personnel will secure the route.

(inspired to write, November 10, 1983 and posted in Huff-Po comments, October 16, 2007)
Beneath the antaganism is a want of peace. Hear me, the time is here for the nations to accept or reject the laws of the Almighty Father. Believe that the Almighty Father has His arms outstretched to welcome is children home.
Altogether the nation of the North abounds across the seas and inland to places not warranted. This bare and obvious fact has the entire world in turmoil. There will arrive a victory for the oppressed whence an ordained Prince of Egypt will gather together a mighty army to ward off the fiery darts of the Northern Atheistic Nation.

people are excited an want to hear what he has to say. i have a hunch the speech will be at al-azhar mosque/university (the vatican city of islam) or the adjoining azhar park.

his speech will be ignored by Hamas and other miltants bent on the destruction of Israel.
Im glad he is giving the speech, but im afraid its not going to change a thing.

Go back to the 2008 election and you’ll see that Obama never cared about the establishment. I don’t think he will be speaking to Hamas; he might try to persuade them a little, but he will most likely be speaking to the people.

The only non-totalitarian Muslim nation is Turkey.

There's a difference between a monarchy and a totalitarian government. And then there's a little democracy called Turkey and now Pakistan again if they can hold off the Taliban and extremists.

If you want to post an opinion try learning something before you open your mouth.

How about pictures of students being arrested on Visa problems, a number of Russian and UK students have been detained in the last couple of days. Does it have anything to do with the up coming visit?

I checked and the reason they were picked up was due to them staying over their Immigrant Visa time. Some of them were released to go back to their home country and others are still being processed. Many of them were Russian and even the Russian government agreed with the Egyptian government.
